Who knows the Mansfield area...?

I'm house-hunting like a mad thing, and I'm now looking round the Mansfield area.
Does anyone have any opinions to share? Which are the good/bad parts? Is traffic a nightmare on certain roads...? Are the shops closing down at a shocking rate...? etc etc.
Any insider knowledge gratefully received
Edit - Mansfield Nottingham that is.

Hello,
I bought a house in Mansfield Woodhouse last year, near the Manor sports ground. It's close to A60 near the Coopers pub and the Station is not a far walk away so nice and easy to get to Nottigham/Sheffield. Town centre nothing to write home about.
There are some areas near the football stadium that seem crazy expensive not sure why as I wouldnt want to live that side, traffic can be bad.
Berry Hill is a nice area where houses are snapped up quickly- close the Oakham school.
There are some fairly newish developments dotted about but they all look small and identical and not my cup of tea, cant go wrong with 1930s semis.0 -
Thanks deuteronomy. It’s the Forest town area I’ve seen some alright looking houses in, 30’s semi’s. They seem cheap to me but similar are making the same money. I’m trying to work out if they’re this price because houses are cheap in this area geographically, or if it’s the wrong side of town...Don't throw sodium chloride at people. That's a salt.0

I live about 10 miles off Mansfield. You’ve got the shopping centre in town, markets dying off a bit plus it does have a bit of a problem with the mamba in town. Then there’s an odeon and a load of food jaunts like Pizza Hut, Nando’s and a few others nearby, Sainsbury’s and water meadows just heading out of town. Train station, buses and coaches to many areas, clubbing, football club. Kings mill hospital isn’t far away with an a n e etc.
It’s not a bad area, most of it isn’t really. Most folk keep themselves to themselves but there’s plenty to do. House prices are pretty reasonable too.
Just depends what your looking for really. Worth following Ben Banbury mp as he does highlight a few problems, but on the whole I don’t think it’s a lot to worry about.:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

You really can't wrong with most of Mansfield. I would however avoid the Ravensdale and Bull farm area.
I brought my second house in Mansfield Woodhouse. Ex mining house with right visable slope ha But loved it. Forest town is a perfectly decent area.
Mansfield town centre very lively at night! Loads of pubs!
Good for road . Trains in to Nottingham.
And Woodhouse is pronounced woodhuss!!!!!!!
Lots of ex coal mining and ex LA houses solidly built.
Avoid berry hill it's over priced!0 -
Thanks for all the links Cakeguts, the last one does look alright. I'm only looking for 2 bedrooms though - this one is the front runner so far -

Crime and flood stats look ok, and neighbours seem ok on streetview.
It seems a wee bit near Ravensdale road + avenue though, thanks realgonekid! The mamba situation - is it a spreading issue or a handful of scum in the town centre do you know?Don't throw sodium chloride at people. That's a salt.0 -
Wow. Houses are so cheap in Mansfield! I had to do a double take on the price!' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0
