I use Nord (no, I'm not a spammer) and the reason I use it is because I tried a few different ones and it was the only one I could find that generally doesn't cause any problems when I log on to the BBC iplayer website from overseas. (and yes, I do have a TV licence).
The speed and connection reliability are pretty much on a par with many other VPNs.
For a 1 year plan I'm paying $72 (£54)

Even cheaper is to use a Rasberry Pi with PiVPN.

Why not? That is one of the things it is designed to do!!

The Pi is the VPN server (which is connected to your home router) and you have a VPN client on your mobile on a beach in Spain to watch BBC iPlayer. The BBC thinks you are at home.

BBC Iplayer detects an disallows VPN. Its very easy to detect IP cloaking. You are allowed to listen to BBC radio on iRadio though.

Can anyone advise a good free one that works on Laptops and Phones please, more for security when travelling than copyright theft.
