Do I have grounds for opening a chargeback request against Aeromexico?

Hi guys!
Basically, I purchased a ticket to Havana, Cuba on 5th of August via lastminute.com, at the time of purchase changes were permitted.

I didn't put my middle name when I booked (I never have) and there wasn't a box for middle names, however after calling the airline directly they informed me that my full name has to be on the ticket!

They have all my info-passport no. First and last name etc.

I asked if I can add it, they said no. They also said they can't guarantee I'll even be able to board the flight 😒

They said that they changed the policy regarding the name change on the 25th September, and even when I said I bought my ticket on 5th of Aug and that changes were permitted on my ticket-they basically said "oh well, not our problem"

Surely they should honour the rules of my ticket at the time of purchase? As I still want to go!

Failing that, do I have grounds for a chargeback if I contact my bank? (Barclays)
Thanks guys :(

Why did you call the airline? :)

Is your middle name in your passport? If it isn't, there's no need to worry about it.

I would of hoped Aeromexico would have been a little more accommodating if they had changed their policy recently and given you had volunteered the information. They could of at least added the details to your booking (PNR).

I fear a chargeback will not work. Firstly you have booked via lastminute rather than the airline so presumably that first party charged you (lm) rather than Aeromexico. Secondly such action would probably only work once you had been denied boarding, at the airport on the day.

Wonder if it is worth calling again to see if you get a better agent, although really lastminute should be your contact point.

I have just been on the Aeromexico website and been through the booking flow. Even on their own site on the passenger information page it states that the middle name is OPTIONAL. Check it for yourself so you can be forearmed at the airport.

I now don’t believe you will have a problem. If your first name and surname match your passport I think you will be just fine.

My partner has two first names and four surnames. He usually only uses his first and last name for ticketing.

A couple of times a supervisor was called to approve check in at the airport but he's never been denied boarding. I've flown with him on at least 10 different airlines.

I don't think you should worry.

I'd also take a print out of the web page to have with you.

Thanks! I did the same just to make sure as well definitely says optional! And on lastminute there isn't even a box for middle names *sigh*

Flying with EasyJet is so much easier! Never used my middle names in 20+ flights!

    Thanks for responding everyone!

I put in a request for a refund last night and they said the amount I'd get back is £340.61.

    I paid 467.....should I just refund and re-buy the ticket? (Losing 120+)

Or still try for a chargeback? I assume that sort of claim would take a while....and I would probably been charged to add my middle name anyway....

Think I've answered my own question lol

The advice you have had is you wont have any issues, why are you still attempting to get a refund?

No need to seek a refund. Just go to Mexico and enjoy your trip.
