This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good morning :)

Well a far more positive start to today for me :) Sorry for the grumpy start yesterday Hotel room was changed to a rather gorgeous new one and more importantly it was silent meaning after going to sleep at 9 I slept through till 5. Great day yesterday with the group and looks like pretty much the same today so all is well again

Pretty chilly up here but a gorgeous blue sky day yesterday. Ate at the hotel last night which was very nice and the company provide lunch so plenty to go at. Back home tonight straight into an evening meeting so will be a long one for sure.

Holly update she messaged yesterday and is having a rough time again. The change of meds are really hitting her and she's very down and depressed. She has an appointment at the other hospital tomorrow and she's worried about that and who they will send with her.

Need to go back and read yesterday and have a nosey at what everyones up to. Have a lovely Wednesday if you can

    Hi Old Stylers.

I used to post here many moons ago; when we first got together and were saving to afford a mortgage, then we bought a house and to make the pennies go further I old styled it like crazy.

Things aren't so tight these days, we've nearly paid the mortgage off [months to go, from 25 years down to 12] by overpaying but I still old style it where and when i can. Have an allotment, taught organic food growing for years inbetween etc...

I left MSE for ages due to long working hours, and came back a fortnight ago for a look around and it is so good to see so many familiar faces. I got quite choked reading some threads.

What's going on in my house old style:
Elderberry wine is fermenting, one demijohn is quite lacking in flavour so am going to get a bag of berries out of the freezer, cook them down and add them in and split it into two demijohns and restart it.

I've got a cupboard full of dehydrated food and preserves, so am trying to work my way through those; plus all the pulses I've bought over the years...thank goodness they don't all go off.

Allotment - we covered it in weed fabric due to the nightmare soil [10 years we've had it, nothing improved it] so I bought 32 Pallet Collars, 8 tonnes of topsoil and made 16 deep raised beds; we did this in August and already 14 of those beds have winter beg growing merrily away in them. One has fruit. And the greenhouse is still producing tomatoes.

Hope everyone is well and Holly feels better soon.

Good morning and thank you Nelski.

It's a bit chilly here at the mo, but the forecast is good. It was windy yesterday, we'll see what today brings.

Glad you managed to get your room changed Nelski, and had a better night, but sorry to hear that Holly is not so good.

Yesterday didn'y go quite according to plan - I've got a problem with my phone, well not the phone itself, but the service providers. I was told yesterday that someone would contact me from their helpline, but I'm still waiting!! I'll ring them again when they open, see if I can get some sense out of them.

We are looking after youngest Dgs today - there's work going on at DD's house, and the baby is being woken by the noise, so he's coming to us. Though it'll be noisy for a while yet, they're having their a new bathroom put in, so I think we'll see quite a bit of him in the next week or two.

We'd already booked a hairdresser visit, but that doesn't take long.

    Morning, and welcome Zazen.

That's it really - I'm hoping to do some of the never ending washing and get it out.

Thinking of everyone who is struggling with life.

    Take care folks

    Morning everyone

Nelski - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here but not too cold, although I have put the heating on, but it's going to be turned off shortly, yesterday was a glorious day with almost completely blue sky all day - today is forecast the same and a bit warmer. I have a wash load to peg out - will do that before I go to work.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 now surfacing as he's going for a run shortly.

Dinner last night was chicken in mushroom sauce, savoury rice and pasta. Tonight is sausages, egg, beans and chips/jacket potato. I'm trying to use food up from the freezers and store cupboards as I seem to spend loads and then end up throwing food away as I won't use it if it's been in the freezer too long.

Work was busy again yesterday with some very difficult cases, one is becoming a real problem, but the supervisor is aware and hopefully something can be done. Hopefully the person won't come in again, they are actually already banned from coming in, so shouldn't have been coming in but they came in last week, so think it may be the start of a pattern - hopefully with the supervisor already aware we can nip it in the bud before it gets out of hand. We'll see how that goes.

Lost another pound at fat club - didn't think I'd lost anything, so will just keep going - maybe the no alcohol is helping - we'll see how it goes this week.

Training tomorrow on my day off and I'm working Saturday morning, so not much time off. Will enjoy what I do have.

    Keep safe and well x

Welcome Zazen, your allotment sounds good.
Hoping Holly has a better day.
Glad you had a good nights sleep Nelski.
Congrats on the job Speky, glad you and TGFW could part amicably. Hope your Gran is improved enough to have her procedure.
Hope you're OK Gers, the flooding up your way looks awful.

It's meant to be a glorious day here with temperatures reaching 19 degrees, it will certainly be a welcome break from the rain. Had my hair cut last night and it feels much better, it curls when it grows and the constant rain here made me look a bit wild!

Forgot to update you on DS2, he had surgery and has a plate and 5 screws in his collar bone, he also sent me a photo of a bruise the size of a small country on his side, he's fine but will be quite sore for a time yet.

Off to see Kevin Bridges tonight, really looking forward to it. 4 of us going for something to eat and the show straight from work, bet the day drags!

Have a good Wednesday if you can, thinking of the TAs. Take care. XX

  • Good Morning, Oldstylers :hello: - Just checked today's forecast - 22C and sunshine all day :j. I KNEW that we had a beautiful sunset last night, but didn't expect it to be that good ;)!

Nelski - thanks for starting us off. Wd on getting your room changed . Sorry to hear that Holly is struggling just now - just let her know that everybody is thinking about her and she still has our support :).

Zazen - welcome back to 'Oldstyle Boards', good to see another 'returnee' and congratulations on your success in reducing your mortgage the way that you have. So much progress with your garden too :T.

ScarletRibbons - Hope you manage to sort out your phone service and good luck with your dgs and enjoy your visit with the hairdresser :j.

nmlc - well done on still managing to lose 1lb, even though you didn't expect to. It DOES get harder to actually get the pounds off, the closer you get to your target .................... hope that's a good sign ;)!

camelot1001 - pleased to hear that your Ds's op went well. Good sign that he's doing 'the male thing' and showing off his bruises for 'bragging rights' ;)! Enjoy your evening with friends tonight :j.

silver-oldie - Good Morning - I cross posted with you. Enjoy your day :D.

((((Healing Hugs)))) to everybody who needs one - especially the TA's.

I've got another early appointment with my Knee Consultant this morning - 9.10 . Need to get to the closest hospital (2mls away) to get the Shuttle Bus to the other hospital, so will have to leave here by 7.50 to get to the bus stop .......................... need to get a shufty on. Also got Nathan for the rest of the day - will take him for lunch after I'm done with the hospital.

Have a good day everybody and speak later - Ollie xx

Not quite so cold here this morning the days this week have been glorious getting really quite warm at times.

Bins recycling and garden waste to go out this morning, OH will do that on his way out, I will tidy this mornings bits u and put dw on.

Pork chop tonight with mash and broccoli and peas, we have changed the evening round a bit and are eating slightly later so that OH can walk the dog while its still light so I cook while he is out.

Work today and then tomorrow they come to put the new glass in my windows, I have temporary Perspex in there atm and it wobbles like mad when you drive along, I had a call from the police yesterday which I missed so hopefully they will call back today.

Specky sorry to hear about you and TGFW at least you were honest with her from the start xx

    TA thinking of you xx

    Hugs to Holly xx

    Have good days all xx

    Good morning all,

Just a quick one from me - I need to do the cat's litter tray as the bin men come early this morning. I'm still feeling coldish but not as bad as I did on Monday. My bestie has given me the password to his all access Ancestry account (more money than sense but his mortgage is paid off and he works very hard so......) so I can carry on with our family trees which is a good staying indoors activity. If anyone needs anything looking up please ask. I'm making him some Twinks Hobnobs later to say thanks.

Zazen welcome and nice to meet you

I hope Holly's centre start looking after her a bit better very soon. Thinking of the TA's and Speky's gran too.

That was a lot of stuff that your gran had going on Speky. No wonder she felt so poorly.

AOD I hope you're feeling a bit better too.

Organza Fingers crossed for Prodigal but 10 miles doesn't seem very far. They send them two or three counties away here to get them away from all the dealers they know and dodgy mates that they have.

Take care all of you :)

Hi everyone, and welcome to zazen999. It's a long time since I made wine. I like your plan for boosting the elderberry wine. One time we attempted elderflower wine, the book told us we could end up with muscat or tomcat.... ended up with 5 gallons of the latter :(

Glad you slept well in the different room, Nelski. That's set you up for the day.

I hope you get the car windows fixed redruby. It's a weird feeling driving with wobbly windows. Camelot, agree it's to be a beautiful day here, forecast hour by hour shows 20C by mid to late afternoon. I might go and sit in my nearby friend's garden, there won't be many days like this going into winter.

I had a short but lovely swim yesterday, home for some soup then off to the town 20 miles away for the osteopath appointment. She thinks she's sorted the problem, and my experience over the years for different issues is that usually only one appointment is needed.

My "other" farm delivers its veg box today, so will be menu planning once it arrives. A friend has given me the Persiana cookbook, what a joy, so will be seeing what I can make from that.

Have the best day possible, with special thoughts for poorlies and carers. xxx

    Morning everyone,

Thanks for keeping us up to date with Holly Nelski, I really hope she has a better day today.
Speky glad that the split with TGFW was amicable, hope your gran continues to improve enough for the op.
Welcome Zazen my tablet wants to change you to Zagreb!

It’s a lot milder here this morning and we are set to have a very warm day so will make the most of the sun and get over the yard to see Lu, hopefully my knee will let me have a little sit on as do miss riding my girlie :( The Doctor has referred me for some physio and i should get an appointment within the next two weeks, on Lamewolf’s recommendation I also picked up some Tiger Balm, my knee didn’t seem so painful during the night so have hopes it will help.
Other than that and a bit of work to do, no real plans for the rest of the day, might have to make the most of the weather and do some reading in the garden.

Thinking of the TA’s and all poorlies or those caring for loved ones.

Have a good day folks x
