There are TV that come with freesat and Internet based catchup as no need for an extra box.

    right size,

All the main players(freeview play) built in NowTV and wireless.

I did read that some TV don't like not having a freeview feed to set up the iplayers for freeview play.

A review says this one will work without the feed.

    This should be

    Plug it the power.
    Set up the wifi access

    Ready to go.
login to the iplayer accounts to get personalised viewing.
NOw TV account if access to more stuff needed.

looking at the LG specs says DVB-S2 as well

1366 x 768 screen resolution. Maybe that's OK for the OP on a 24" screen. Only problem is that this model doesn't seem to have a Freesat tuner?

Both that thread and this one seem to have descended into an episode of The IT Crowd. Can't blame her for not bothering to continue on either. :D

Listen to Annie. Respect her requirements. She doesn't know the difference between a coax cable and freeview cable (and why should she?). Do you really think that navigating menus is her thing? I hate doing it and I've been involved in IT for over 30 years.
It was Eddie Izzard who said "You never see a character in a movie using multiple remotes or navigating menus." [sic]

Can on-demand streaming devices, through a combination of app loading and other fiddling, show live TV?
Yes. Well done. Pat yourself on the back.

Is it simple? Is it "Basic TV"?
    No. Fail.

A result isn't always the right result :D

Thanks for this. I don't really want to fiddle around with things if I can get something to plug and play, even if the latter costs more.

Let's see if we can tidy up the thread a little...

The Now TV Smart Box linked in post #1 is the new top-of-the-range Now TV box (the first mainstream 4k box). This is overkill for streaming to a small TV as well as not having any capability for receiving Freeview or Freesat signals.

It, like all Now TV hardware, has the capability to be used with the free catch-up apps without a subscription. These are BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4, Demand 5, and UKTV Player (Dave,Really,Drama and Yesterday). There is also some Sky content (News, Sports News) that I believe is free. ITV Hub presently has live streaming i.e. the channels ITV 1, 2, 3, 4 et al are available as live channels within the app.

If the requirements are for catch-up only, then a Now TV Stick is probably going to be the cheapest/easiest option at £14.99. A reasonable Broadband/wifi connection would be required, but it only needs setting up once. https://www.nowtv.com/smart-tv-stick

Personally, I think a TV + Smart Stick configuration is likely to be more future-proof than a Smart TV with everything built-in.

A quick Google reveals that there are only a few specialised Freesat TVs with a smaller screen size. So the only viable Freesat option is to have a Box and TV separately.

Let's look at the suggestion for a Smart TV with Freeview Play for 189 pounds, in the light of day.

You turn on the TV, connect to the Internet, go the the Freeview Play application and then to find your channel.

With my suggestion, you have a Roku box connected to the TV for less than 20 pounds.
So you turn on the TV and Roku box, connect Roku to the Internet, head to the TV Player application and then on to find your channel.

Of course I imagined that you already had a TV, but it has become increasingly clear that you have not. :)

Sometimes people can't see the forest but for the trees. What makes it worse is that it is exactly the solution for which you asked.
But instead of a 'locked down' NOW TV box which deliberately stops you from having the most useful applications within, you buy the 'unlocked' version, a Roku, which gives you access to the channels you want. 30 pounds new at Argos.
The alternative is to buy a standalone FreeSat box for 50 pounds or less.
