Driving to Ireland

I'll be driving from North East England to Dublin in a few weeks time via a ferry from Liverpool. What is it like driving in Dublin? I've never driven in a different country before.

Just remember the speed limits are in kilometres per hour and you will be fine.
Keep an eye out for tolls as some require online payment. The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.

Watch out for the the little green men, they buy u Guiness.0

Also if you are driving on the M50 ring road don't get caught out by not paying the toll - there are no toll booths!
You can pay on-line within 24 hours or set up an account on line here before you go - saves a few euros too.0 -
Some of the motorway network has tolls, and as Yorkshire Traveller says the M50 you have to pay online (3.10 euro) but the rest of the country has toll booths including manned ones so you can get change.
The Dublin tunnel which you may use soon after leaving the ferry is 3 euro off peak, and I think 10 euro peak times.
Also petrol costs a bit more in Ireland, but diesel is cheaper so fill up in Liverpool if you have a petrol car. It was about 1.47.9 euros (which works out at about 136.9p)0 -
Thanks I'll bare in mind about the M50 Toll. I'm diesel but I'll probably make sure I top up the tank in Liverpool before boarding the ferry too.0

Just keep your doors locked and windows up, and never, ever let a leprechaun in to your car after dark no matter how much it pleads.0 -
Be aware at traffic lights, they go from red to green, no red/amber sequence for you to get yourself ready to move off!0

Much the same as the UK . Cities busy peak hours busy . Fuel a bit dearer .That was Dublin and points SW last week .0 -
Unless you are carrying lots of luggage and or people then why take your car? Dublin city is easy & straight forward by public transport.

Of course if you are venturing further afield then ignore all the above as a car is a must have.0 -
Don't forget they drive on the right on Thursdays.0
