Despite the fact you can have sex and get married at 16, the webcam sites won't accept anyone under 18 and require a passport / national ID card with photo as proof. They are really, really strict about this, for obvious reasons.

Just in case anyone reading thinks this is actually a viable option....

    Hello,
My eldest two children have their GCSEs this school year and both want to work during the summer holidays and then work part time while studying for their A levels. They will use the money they get to fund driving lessons and general spending.

Any ideas on what job, sector, company pays decent or job with some good benefits?

They will send out a huge amount of Cvs and covering letters to every company they can but it would be nice to know if someone can recommend something.

For a 16/17 year old with no experience.

It's national minimum wage and pray you get contracted hours.
  • Sports venues will have seasonal jobs often recruited via local colleges so if you're near a cricket field or a lido or something like that they may well recruit. IF they're decent swimmers they could do a lifeguards course.

But sending out CVs six months early won't do much good. Most public sector organisations will just throw them in the bin as you have to go through the standard application procedure. Worth keeping an eye on your local council website as they may have jobs in children's summer daycare/camps
  • If they want to earn chunky money they should set themselves up doing all the job householders hate - cleaning cars/window/conservatories etc - the young guy across the road from me has left school after his A levels and now has a car cleaning/detailing company turning over £75k - he is 18!!

I explained to my children that they'd have to expect to start at the bottom and work hard to get on in life generally and shouldn't be too proud to do anything to earn their own money.

Some jobs mine did at similar ages:

    McDonalds
Waitressing in local pubs/restaurants (Sunday lunch trade)
Catering at local football stadium (match days but also banquets and functions, which were well paid)
    Weatherspoons (food prep)
Shop Saturday jobs, though I understand these are rare these days
    Local market stall

All except McDonalds were by presenting themselves in person and asking, rather than application/interview. The best paid were McDonalds and waitressing in a local Social Club.

Next in advance of their summer sale? I have no idea if this is still as big a thing as it was when I was 17.
  • My eldest son started off at a well known chain pub restaurant when he was 17 and worked his way up to being a waiter. He saved up loads of money from tips and wages which helped when he went to uni. Also, in university holidays, they always wanted him back. After he graduated, he moved to London and while waiting to get on a graduate training scheme, he was a waiter in a well known chain restaurant in Leicester Square where he earned eye watering amounts in tips which helped with the deposit when he eventually went on to buy a property. I would say that this kind of work pays the best and also helps with giving a person skills in communication and dealing with people generally. My youngest son worked in Sainsburys at that age as he decided that serving people in restaurants wasn’t something that appealed.

Whatever they do, they must approach the employer themselves rather than parent doing it for them.

My granddaughter printed out her CV and walked up and down the nearest 'better off' shopping area near her. She's 16 and got a job in Office shoe shop through this. And they've kept her on part time now she's at college. She just loves doing it.

You're talking about the professional webcam sites... Tumblr and a PayPal account linked to a secret e-mail address.

I'm not actually advocating this as a career option, BTW, but I've been told it happens.
I need to think of something new here...
