    Thats good news Pete.

You should never have to ask them as they will simply be using markers to auto pay it. Like with duel fuel, markers don't get set up so they never know unless the customer informs them.

Just had 2x letters from Atlantic - one for each of Gas and Electric. The rebate is already in the account from which the direct debit is paid. Didn't have to prompt them at all.

We just got a rebate of one month's gas & electric DD  . I was thinking it must be due soon and was going to dig out the letters from when we started to check the dates but then Atlantic wrote to say the money was going to be automatically repaid and it has been.
  • OK, totally new to this, so here goes and apologies if the answer is already on the threads
Been with Atlantic for Gas and Electric for ONE year, had my bills through and have been informed I now OWE them £93.27 and £169.39 respectively...as my previous DD's were not enough to cover costs etc, as from 1st Dec DD's have tripled to take into account the outstanding costs....is this correct?, could they not of asked me to increase my DD's????, and if I switch will I have to pay the outstanding amounts upfront??

    Hi Dot Comm,

They can object to you changing Supplier if you owe more than the threshold they consider acceptable for leaving customers.

How far does this go back? They can argue that they made a mistake, but that you also could see that you were not paying enough.

Is it catching up because they have been underestimating and a reading off the meter has meant it has jumped?

Difficult to say much else without more information.

Had my Nov rebate in Oct. Dont forget that when comparing suppliers, this is already taken into account, its not extra for people not already on Atlantic

Ive just had 2 letters informing me that i'll be getting a "Loyalty" payment direct to my bank account for £59.50 on my Electric account and another for £29.66 for my gas...it also says in the letter

"We'll give you more money back if you stay with us for another year, and then again for the next year. In fact, we'll give you money every year that you remain our customer and pay by monthly direct debit"

as they say...every little bit helps :)

    Hi Dot Comm,

So, they have just had your DD set to low each quarter and you have been landed by the sounds of it. It's unfortunate, but if they have billed it to you, you will owe it.

There are a few ways you can deal with though. You could clear it in one payment to reduce your monthly DD going forward. You could make a part payment to lower the DD a bit.

If it's a problem to pay it, then definately call them. They have also been at fault for not monitoring your DD's so they have put you in this debt situation. They may be able to help if you speak to them.

They may not block your switch to a new Supplier if another is cheaper going forward, but you would have to ask them what their threshold is. Some Suppliers will block if you owe over a quarter, some will do it if it is over a certain amount.
