Number plate spacing?

But an old style plate on a modern car disguises it's age.
If I saw an R reg Insignia, I wouldn't for a second think the Insignia was around 25yrs old.0 -

I was watching a police show once and someone got pulled for their illegally-spaced plate. The driver admitted it and said he had no intention of changing it. The officer argued with him a lot and said if he caught him with it again he'd "report him to the DVLA".
So he admitted wilfully displaying an illegal plate, admitted he had no intention of rectifying it and the officer let him go. So even if they do pull you just for the plate, it seems nothing will actually happen.
I saw a police show where Katie Price/Jordan had a huge pink horse lorry that had something illegal, something like KAT 137G or whatever that she'd changed to KAT13 7G and she was pulled over 2 weeks after the same officer had pulled her and told her to get it done, she'd ignored them so she was issued a fineSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

No it doesn't because you cannot get a registration year newer than the date of first registration of the car.
Yes it does.
My car is a 64 plate. If I buy something with my initials, e.g. E15 XYZ as that's the £399 DVLA cheap jobby, then no-one will know the age of the car (as it's obviously not an old E plate) just by looking at it. You'd have to bother to look it up to find out.
There's a car near me I have mentioned before, old Renault Espace with NDD 1 I think it is, maybe NND, car is something like 15 years old but the plate doesn't tell you anything about the ageSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

Ahh, that old Viz "top tips"
It would be much cheaper to change your name to match your car than to buy an expensive personalised plate.

I prefer the American "Vanity plate" description. The best excuse I usually hear given for owning one is "it was a birthday present".
Whilst we're talking about plates - the best I ever saw was "THE 928S".....on a Porsche 928S. No need for any manipulation there.0 -

There's a J-reg plate that would perfectly match my name without the need to change it! Annoyingly, can't find it anywhere. Been looking for years but it's not on any car but isn't available to buy.
Frustrating that people can buy plates and not use them.0
