EON smart meters
Don't you just love this company!.
6 months ago I received a email from EON, long story short, they were coming to fix a smart meter.
I called them and said I did not want a smart meter, no problem, they will put that on the account, but, they will email again in 6 months and I have to telephone them back to say I don't want one!!!!.
I have today received another email, now I have to call them again to say I still don't want one!.
What is so hard for them to understand? if I wanted a smart meter I would contact them.
Why would they keep doing this this, anyone know?.

Because OFGEM "encourage" them to do so; They haven't made them compulsory - but the Govt. wish they had!!0

Apart from the 90mins or so it takes to install SmartMeters there are no downsides whatsoever to having them fitted, IMHO;...others on here will disagree!
No need to submit meter readings ever again and you can have endless hours of fun and laughter playing around with the little in-home display unit. The IHD unit has flashing led’s and everything!
EON will only stop pestering if you agree to have smart-meters fitted;...I’ve thought long and hard about this and it’s my considered opinion that if you do have smart-meters fitted the pestering will, in all likelihood, cease.0 -
Surely the downside is dependant on what smart meter you get? Unless your intention is never to switch. Companies should have been prevented from carrying out installations of Type 1, once the type 2 were out.0

It would have halted the smart meter programme in its tracks. SMETS 2 is not yet fit to deploy across the Nation. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Hello amersall and sorry you're unhappy with the contact. As brewerdave and Hengus note, we've little choice as we're obligated to keep checking with customers at regular intervals even where they've told us they don't want smart meters.
This project is evolving all the time with significant developments like the roll-out of SMETS2 meters. We need to make customers aware of these developments so they have all the options in case they want to change their mind.
Totally appreciate, smart meters aren't for you. Don't worry, they're optional and you can refuse them at any time.
Thank you for trying to phone us about this and sorry for the long call waits. We're working to improve these wait times. There's a dedicated number on our website that goes through to our smart meter teams. It's on the 'help and support' pages. Advisors are available from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and between 8am and 6pm Saturdays.
Hope this helps explain amersall.

Not sure if you know nic_c but, as well as installing SMETS2 meters, we'll be remotely updating many of the SMETS1 meters we've already put in. This means they'll be managed in the same way as SMETS2 including being able to work and communicate following a change of supplier.
Although I don't have a start date for these remote updates at the moment, I expect they'll begin next year.
There are some early smart installations (mainly from 2014 and before) where this won't be possible. These meters can't be enrolled into the Data Communications Company (DCC) and will need to be replaced before they can use the latest smart technology. The DCC provides the communications infrastructure that handles the UK's smart meter data.
Sorry if you already know this stuff nic_c.
