EON smart meters

I am still not sure how any smart meter is able to calculate an average calorific value (truncated to one decimal point) for a given billing period and show it on an IHD. If it was that simple, we wouldn't have meters that record gas consumed in volume,This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Thanks Malc, I got through late yesterday afternoon, the lady I spoke to has made a note on my account and no more correspondence in any form will be sent regarding this.Hello amersall and sorry you're unhappy with the contact. As brewerdave and Hengus note, we've little choice as we're obligated to keep checking with customers at regular intervals even where they've told us they don't want smart meters.
This project is evolving all the time with significant developments like the roll-out of SMETS2 meters. We need to make customers aware of these developments so they have all the options in case they want to change their mind.
Totally appreciate, smart meters aren't for you. Don't worry, they're optional and you can refuse them at any time.
Thank you for trying to phone us about this and sorry for the long call waits. We're working to improve these wait times. There's a dedicated number on our website that goes through to our smart meter teams. It's on the 'help and support' pages. Advisors are available from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and between 8am and 6pm Saturdays.
Hope this helps explain amersall.

Until the smart meter team look again at their customer approach, and rest assured they will contact you again as they are required to do by Ofgem. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

No worries amersall. Happy to help. Glad you were able to speak to us.

‘Liked’, Malc,.. liked; ...sadly (and tragically!) my lovely IHD unit and my Smart-Meters were both struck ‘dumb’ almost a year ago now.Glad you like smart meters The Big Bamboo, particularly the In-Home Display.

I’m still coming to terms with my loss;...and they were so young as well, but at least it was quick;
...why‽...oh why‽

Oh! dear The Big Bamboo. That's really a shame. Hopefully the future will see a revival of past glories.

I cannot see any possible reason for me to need a smart meter. Read a few threads on here & you realise that you still have to read your meter to make sure that it is still smart even without a supplier change. I haven't heard of one smart meter that is easier to read than the old meters. I read my meters once a month (yes a month not a week I'm not THAT anal yet).
I also know that there are 4 things that I can do to reduce my power usage.
1 stop cooking - well takeaways are more expensive & generally bad for you so that isn't going to happen.
2 replace the old fridge - when I get the new kitchen hopefully next year if I can summon up the courage to have workmen in the house again.
3 replace the old freezer - when I get the new kitchen hopefully next year if I can summon up the courage to have workmen in the house again.
4 turn down the heating & get so stiff I can't move & put more weight on - well that's another one that isn't going to happen.
So why do I need a smart meter? Until someone comes up with a reason that will actually benefit me then I don't want one.
However if they come up with timed charges I will seriously consider it - providing those times are useful. What really worries me about this is that once they know when you use your energy even if at a time when no-one else does - that will be your personal highest rate. You have my full permission to call me paranoid. But in ten years time when virtually everyone has a smart meter remember to come back & tell me I wasn't wrong!0 -

Smart meters are the best thing since sliced bread!,...they have a little button that lights up the display so it’s easy to read if they’re fitted in a dark cupboard, or wherever;I cannot see any possible reason for me to need a smart meter. ...impressive eh?,...that alone is reason enough to have smart-meters fitted, IMHO.
But you really don’t need to physically read your smart-meters at all;...what’s the point of having a dog and barking yourself?
You can set them up to transmit your readings to the supplier every 24hrs if you wish,..and view the readings online real-time.
P.S. forgot to add;...smartmeters are small and dinky. :j They take up very little space, unlike the old style gas meters many of which are the size of garden sheds.

Thanks for the feedback badmemory. I've passed this on to our smart meter management team.
Don't worry, as I mentioned above, smart meters are optional and you can refuse to have them.
