  • This thread has gone a little quiet, so just to post my experience so far:-

I had a letter on Friday demaning £19 or so. I'm fairly certain I don't owe this, although I did have a Britannia account and they were notoriously bad at maintaing customer account details, so I was always in dispute with them. Having said that I'm reasonably sure my account was clear.

However, seeking a quick resolution and to get those thieves off my back I phoned on Monday offering to settle. However, from Friday to Monday I had incured a fee of £7 as a second letter had apparently been issued. I refused to pay the fee so after a little deliberation the guy offered to half it.

I just saw red at this -- this just smacks of real dodgy practices.

I again offered to pay the original demand of £19 as FINAL settlement or nothing. The guy refused to waive the fee -- although he was still willing to take my £19 but couldn't assure me that I wouldn't be pursued for the remaining £3.5.

Needless to say they got not a penny out of me. I asked the guy to annotate my account to say that I had offered to pay the £19 original demand 'without prejudice' as FULL SETTLEMENT of my account but as this had been refused I would contest it.

I have sent off one of the above stencils - and these ******** can see me in court.

Oh, and the second letter that had apparently been sent last Thursday? As of today (Tuesday) still not received.

Lets keep this thread live, guys !!

I got my second letter today with the added fee despite phoning on the day I got my first letter and saying I disputed that I owed them anything.

I phoned the non 0870 number but they refused to transfer me to the right department so in the end I had to phone the number on the letter and managed to get the account put on hold until they can provide proof of the debit. I posted one of the form letters yesterday so hopefully it should be resolved one way or the other in the next fortnight
  • I had a letter on Saturday saying that I owed Intrum Justitia £6.49 because of Britannia. I had an account with Music and Film last year and had tried to order a DVD in March this year. It didn't show up but I was still charged for it. I couldn't get through to M&F by phone or email ( i have copies of the emails still) and had to give up as it was obvious I wasn't getting my money back (£10.99) So imagine my anger when this Debt Collection agency told me that I still owed £6.49 for a DVD I bought in June this year, although they cannot tell me what it was. Apparently I had paid £10.99 already in June (my missing money from March I bet!!) but I didn't pay the balance. I spent Saturday morning arguing with them and was then told, after I finally agreed to pay it in order to get them off my back, that I now owed another £2.50 as another letter had been drafted and would be sent to me on Monday! How could they charge me when I had only got the letter that day!
Needless to say, I haven't paid it. I have contacted Watchdog and also rang Consumer Direct today. They advised to write requesting proof of this invoice and debt and send by recorded delivery. Also letting this company know that if they can't provide it then I will see them in court! I rang them again tonight and told them that I wanted this proof and was told by an impatient young man that they could not provide any proof but would waive the £2.50 charge if I paid straight away. I refused and he has now decided to refer my case back to Britannia as I know that I did not have any DVD in June as they claim. Their website and phones are constantly down so how did I even manage to order it!! These people cant be allowed to get away with this and I think we should all stand up to them. Hopefully Watchdog will pick this up soon and we can all breathe a big sigh of relief!
  • I too contacted Watchdog last week, heard nothing from them yet, but if they get enough people contacting them on the same issue I hope that they will look into it.

:j :j :j :j :j :T :T :T :T :T Britannia have folded.I too had a letter stating i owed £16, i know that i closed the britannia account over a year ago.But for the sake of arguing and possibility of getting more charges i paid it.Plus the fact that Britannia have gone bust is music to my ears as they were no good con artists.
So to all the people for what ever reason that helped britannia go bust:beer: CHEERS.

thank goodness brittania folded. my brother lived in a flat and someone filled the form out in his name, so yes he was in a contract with them to buy films

  • This is the letter Iwas thinking off. It asks for a copy of the signed credit agreement which they should have and provide. I would bet they don't have it. They need to provide it within 12+2 or else the account is in dispute and you don't provide it after another 30 days you don't have to pay them a bean unless they go to court to sort it.

Send it by recorded delivery so you can prove they recieved it with £1 as required by law. Obviously change details to suit you.

    Dear Sir/Madam

With reference to the above agreement, we would be grateful if you would send us a copy of this credit agreement and a full breakdown of the account including any interest or charges applied.

We understand that under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 [sections 77−79], we are entitled to receive a copy of any credit agreement and a statement of account on request.

We enclose a payment of £1 which represents the fee payable under the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

We understand a copy of any credit agreement along with a statement of account should be supplied within 12 working days.

We understand that under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 creditors are unable to enforce an agreement if they fail to comply with the request for a copy of the agreement and statement of account under these sections of the Act.

We look forward to hearing from you.

    Yours faithfully

    Mr A N Other

Hopefully someone with more experiance will be along soon to help.

Just quoting my post from earlier. Hopefully it will help someone. If they don't have a CCA then they don't have a leg to stand on.

My bill seems to be from June as well and after going through my records, the last time I got anything from them (£10. 80 for 3 dvds and that was taking £1.20 off for loyalty...Loyalty...I wonder if they know what that really means? :rotfl: ) was Jan 2007.

I'm posting the proof that I don't owe a bean at the moment. I'll let you all know what happens next. (I'm still going to add to the list of people that's let watchdog know about this)

So let me just sum this up. They went bust in June? and these bills people are getting are from June? Mmmmmmmmmm:rotfl:

Britannia Music. A rip-off even after they go bust :rotfl:

One more thing. Please DON'T give them your money if you DON'T owe anything. The fact that they are adding extra charges to everybody here is just...

It's pretty scary that a company can go to Intrum Justitia and without even letting them know what you owe money for, Intrum Justitia just says "sure' i'll get you that money or they will pay big time" (extra fees, blacklisted)
