Self-scan checkouts (esp. ASDA)

  • I sometimes use one in a Tesco near me , but I think I'll have to stop using it or going there altogether . Most of the time when I use the self-service till the woman who I see standing around doing nothing when I walk towards the till suddenly has to check the bags beside me or some such nonsense when I'm putting my stuff in the bag , or usually she just stands peering right over my shoulder . Might as well just call me a thief . I must look like that sort of person .

:D Lol , reminds me of a security guard that used to work in a nearby Somerfield.

He always seemed to be standing in the doorway until I walked in and then he'd walk around the store 10 - 15 metres behind me stopping each time I stopped etc until I walked in one day and handed him an empty basket and said
You're going to follow me so why don't you carry this and you can make sure I put everything in it

u can use out of date coupons on em....
  • I don't know why people are so against them...

For example, tonight on the way home from work, I needed a couple of bits or so. Went to self scanner, scanned the goods (used own bags no problem), paid, got cash back and left. Quick and simple.

Asda's by the way. I had a couple of items that were reduced - but the scanner knew that.

I love them, especially when I'm in a hurry - which I usually am.

Is everyone actually talking about the same thing though? The thread is really old and so there's bound to have been improvement since then. I used self service just the other day and that was only introduced within the last week at our Morrisons!! Nothing like what I described in my previous post which is actually the very same store. That's the danger of resurrecting old threads, they may no longer be relevant to the very people who posted in them originally.

Wow, Morrisons using modern technology that must be a first. Safeway were quite advanced with theirs and then Morrisons came along and took them back to the dark ages.

Exactly. I mean I quite like the new self service but it does seem somewhat less ambititous as despite Safeway's flaws at least you could scan as you went along. Whereas with the current system it still takes as long as if you were at a normal till just with smaller queues. When Safeway had their system (and without all the frequent checks etc) and was working properly it could be a timesaver because all you did was pay and not spend that same amount of time scanning each product at the end.

I hate the Asda self-scan checkouts and only use them as a last resort, even then, they always catch me out..just like on Tuesday. I got halfway throught bagging my stuff an realised I needed help with razor blades. One of the staff helped with that but as she went off to help someone else, then my Anadin Extra was giving a warning. Fed up, I just grapped my bags and went to the nearest checkout & unloaded. Guess I'll just have to be carefull with what I'm buying next time :)

I think its funny when the voice says remove items from bagging area and evryone looks round thinking you are stealing, you can almost here them tutting under their breath. The fact is i am as mesmerised as they are as to what i have to remove from the bagging area.
