Well it would take a bit of nerve, but if he got a full refund he could go back to the same store and buy the same ring back for half the price!

It is not uncommon though for returned jewellery items to be cleaned and polished and re entered into stock by the office before putting them back on display , so it might be that the ring cannot be immediately re purchased. It's a gamble whether the ring can definitely be re bought , and it's up to the OP if he feels it worth the risk.

  • I don't want to sound cheap
Taking a £2k ring back in order to get a £10 or £20 refund would be cheap.
Taking a ring back in order to enough of a refund to possibly pay for a very good holiday is being far from cheap, it is just being sensible.
If the T&C's of the seller allow a return then you are doing nothing wrong whatsoever by taking it back.
  • That ring is not worth £1k, let alone £2k, if it's from a High St jeweler. I appreciate people like what they like but you would get better value going to somewhere like Blue Nile or visiting a jeweler in one of the countries jewelry quarters.

Thats a bit mean. Maybe he knows his future fiancee's tastes very well.

What's mean is ignoring the smiley ... it is patently obvious that it was meant in jest.

Obviously I can't speak for your future fiance, but in her shoes, I'd rather have the ring and 1k in the bank! But then I'd be scared to wear 2k on my finger anyway :rotfl:

We bought a bed from dreams. The mattress was half price but the bed itself was full price. Before it was delivered, the bed went halfprice as well. My OH phoned up and asked them if they would consider giving us the bed for the offer price and they refunded the difference there and then. You can only ask.

Good luck - with both the refund and your proposal!

Yes, I do ... you made a borderline abusive post but dressed it up with a winky smiley, whereas I simply made a playful reference to a stereotype. ;)

    :D

PS - I'm not intending any offence, and nor am I taking any ... this is just a bit of fun. :)
  • Legally you have no right of return unless the company advertise a return policy. Worth trying though because a lot of high profile companies do value customers over and above their legal obligations
Hi. I bought an engagement ring for a little over £2k like a week ago. Went shopping yesterday and noticed that the ring is now on a half-price sale for just a little over £1k. I am not sure what my consumer rights are at this point but I am thinking of returning the ring I bought for a full-refund since it's only been like 10 days since the purchase and rebuying it again for half of the original price! It's over £1k of difference. What are my options?
    If I ruled the world.......
