    Afternoon everyone.

It's a rubbish day outside, driving rain and howling wind which is coming from the north. It's not quite as horrid as an east wind but close.

TA - every part of me sends love to you and Bob. Your courage in the face of Bob's illness is a testimony to your shared love and shared lives. Hold fast to the love and memories, they will keep you afloat.

In 2013 I decided to take my occupational pension, aged 60, and leave the world of work and 'retired' to my rural nest. Best decision I ever took. My 'me' time is now very restricted because of DM, however I had almost five years of fabulous travel, great social life and mostly weekday freedom. Too many friends died within a year of retirement. Enjoy each day if possible.

After those deep comments I am enjoying this day in my jim-jams and not straying too far from the bedroom. My stomach is having a dicky time, not D&V, no V and not exactly D, just frequency. Yesterday I ate sugar for the first time in three weeks so I imagine it's directly related. I don't feel unwell either. Weird.

I'm going to catch up with No Offence now.

    Thoughts to all our poorlies.

    Happy rest of Sunday.

Quick whizz back to say Happy Anniversary to Bob and Mrs TA. I am so pleased you got to spend this special day together and with your family. You speak wise words about making the most of life whilst you can. I hope the family are caring for you as they always do on this special day. Lots of love xx

Anniversary Congratulations to the TAs and the NRAs.

Lainey I do sympathise re the knee; when mine plays up worse than usual, I slather it in Tiger Balm, which helps.

I'm another who is glad DH retired earlier than originally planned. He'd planned to work til he was 70; but the job got more and more demanding, and instead of leaving the house looking forward to the challenges of the day, he'd got to the stage of dreading going in; so he finally retired in March 2016, aged 66.

Now, of course, he's been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, so we too need to try to make the most of what time we have. We're told it won't actually shorten his lifespan, but it may well have a large impact on quality of life – it's impossible to predict, as it's different for every patient - much like my own situation from that point of view.

    Many congrats Dp1, lovely news.

TA I am so pleased that you & Bob have reached your wedding anniversary :heart2:
We are in our late forties / early fifties but have plans in place to retire by 60, no amount of money or possessions can replace experiences shared together and we intend to make the most of it all.
  • dp1 how lovely :j. May your purse be ever open for your DGD :D Congrats to your DD too.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently
  • Good to hear from you TA, but sorry Bob is deteriorating, and it's your anniversary as well. At least his pain is controlled.
It's so true what you said about retirement. My DH retired at 58, he was offered a good deal, and I worked for 4 years after that and retired at 60. So pleased we did. I think we all know people who didn't reach retirement.

AOD - seems your cold is still with you,

Happy Anniversary to NRA and DH

Olliebeak, I don't do half the ironing that I used to - can't be bothered, and don't know how I ever could have been!!

Maddiemay, I wonder if it was Souter lighthouse you visited, near Sunderland, or St Mary's, just up the coast a bit from Tynemouth

-taff you don't sound too good today, hope you'll pick up a bit

    Good wishes to everyone anyway.
  • Happy Anniversary to Bob and Mrs TA my thoughts are with you

    Happy anniversary newroadahead

    Congratulations dp1

Our retirement hasn't worked out as I had hoped. I cared for my mother for many years, started with simple things, shopping, housework but soon became a great deal more. Even with carers 4 times a day it became difficult and I had to visit her every day. Some carers were brilliant, others not. She's now in a care home.

I always thought we would have time for us, but it hasn't worked out. After retiring DH had a heart attack then had several other health issues now has been diagnosed with mixed dementia, vascular and Alzheimer's

I sometimes feel guilty, but I did what I thought was right at the time.
