TA, thank you for your post. Steve's dad died 2 years after he retired, he had lost his pension when a employer embezzled it so he had been obsessed by saving as much as possible for retirement but then never got to enjoy (the very moderate amount) he saved. Steve has a tendency to be the same and I used to point out that it was no use having piles of money if you weren't around to enjoy it. Ironically, he now has cancer, albeit a milder form and hopefully will live for many years with it.
Holly, have a lovely day with your relatives.
Lainey, ouch. I bought a knee brace in Lidl last week to support my knee when I walk down huge hills in Yorkshire, it doesn't like that at all.
Laura and Brian are here. Brian and Steve have gone golfing with a friend and Chris. Meanwhlie Laura will be studying for her accupuncture course and I will be cleaning and cooking. The wife of golfing friend and their two small children will be coming and we will all have lunch. She is a vegetarian so I am making a veggie biryani, a dahl, a bean and mushroom dish and for the non-veggies, Madhur Jaffrey's foil wrapped chicken which is lush and very easy to do. I have to clear my sewing room and turn it back into the dining room (we eat in the kitchen when we're by ourselves).
In betwen I willl be trying to watch the golf and the grand prix.0 -
Good morning all  - what a very different start to the day here in Merseyside. RAIN for the first time in a week
!
HollyHarvey - thank you for starting the day off for us. Enjoy your lunch with your brother and family members this afternoon and congratulations on being so 'well-planned' for your hospital trip tomorrow. Praying that all goes smoothly for you tomorrow.
Mrs TA - it sounds as though Mr TA - and yourself - are being well taken care of by the staff. Good to hear that they can respond to his needs so quickly when needed.
Praying for you both right now and all others who need them.
ancientofdays - enjoy your sunday.
Lainey - I can definitely sympathise over your knee. Some days I just want to sit on the sofa with my bad leg elevated - but then you think of something 'that MUST be done' and have to struggle to your feet to 'get on with it' :undecided. Do you have any Pain Relief Gel or good painkillers to help? What about an ice-pack - I sometimes use one wrapped in a teatowel and it really helps to reduce inflammation/swelling.
I love comps - mmm - I should be getting on with housework as well - but I'm taking a day/week/fortnight off:rotfl:.
ScarlettRibbons - ironing? What's that? Never heard of it!
Nelski - what a shame that the 'online conference' idea didn't work! Wonder if people who were interested originally, just 'plain forgot' about it :undecided. I get those 'night-time to-do-lists' as well - usually just before something that I'm particularly wanting to 'run smoothly'. Times like going on holiday - prepping for hosting something.
Maddiemay - hope you find your DMum in good spirits today :j. Enjoy your shopping trip.
WeeMidgie - have a lovely afternoon with your friends. Sounds like a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
silver-oldie - I'm sure you'll find something enjoyable to keep you busy today :T.
snoozer - wow what a full-on day of catering for family/friends. Have a lovely time - your meal plan sounds !
Planning a quiet day here today. Church in around half an hour and then I'll call in Lidl on the way home - we need some fresh milk. One or two of us may just pop into McD's for a coffee after the service ................. before the kids 'face-painting/craft sessions' start!
Salad for evening meal - possibly with some chips for OH - but there's stuff from yesterday that needs using up, and I've done more than enough 'messing with food' etc over the last couple of days!
Take care, everybody - and have a relaxing day, wherever possible.

Morning all
Its another beautiful day here we have been lucky with the weather, I have stripped the beds and got them in the wm, OH can hang them out when he gets back from the boot sale.
My new fridge came yesterday:j I didn't believe it was coming until I saw the van outside, its a newer model than the old one so slightly better and so far its working well, the stuff is much colder and there is no water on shelves and dripping down, AO came good in the end its just a shame it took weeks and weeks of phone calls to get it sorted, I must say its put me off using them again !
Ive got two bits of brisket in the sc I set the timer to come on at 6 this morning as I knew I would not be up, it smells delish, I will take it over to dd's later, we are going to do a roast for lunch and plate another one up for tomorrow night for the four of us so easy dinner tomorrow, DD is a veggi and has been for at least ten years so was not sure about cooking the meat so I offered to do it here. We will head over for about one and OH will do a few jobs while dd and I cook, we can walk Evie over the fields behind dd's house too, I am looking forward to spending some time with her.
Beds to remake later this evening but will have no dinner to cook we will just have a sandwich or something for tea.
TA my thoughts are always with you and your dear family, Ive been there with my darling dad and its a very hard process, im sending much love to you all xx
Have good days all and enjoy the sun if you have it xx0 -

Likewise Olliebeak an ice pack applied a few times a day and regular anti inflammatory medication usually knocks any flare up on the head. Fingers crossed that’s the case again.0 -
Morning all
Happy Anniversary the TA's, it is our anniversary but 16 years for us, not bad as we have both been married before.
I hope Mr Ta is as comfortable as possible and I am glad the family are looking after you.
Had a lovely time with my friend yesterday and I managed to buy my first Christmas gift (sorry to mention the C word). Reading about Holly and others getting themselves organised set me on my way.
Had a lovely card from DH this morning, he can be very thoughtful when he puts his mind to it. we are going away for the weekend next week so will celebrate then.
He is now watching his normal Sunday morning fill of politics, while I browse here and do some work.
Hope everyone has a good Sunday thinking of all the sad and poorlies

TA
Having been in a similar position three years ago I agree so strongly with the gratitude that DH took early retirement. He waited till 63 so only had three years before we lost him but they were very happy years and we did not regret a thing. I am so glad that your husband is being so well looked after especially with pain relief. My thoughts are with you .
Just had a quick shower, washed my hair and now properly up and dressed before dds arrive for Sunday lunch. I still need to roll out the pastry for the lamb and veg pie, prepare the chicken breasts and veg etc.

Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
Mrs TA, I am pleased that the hospice is keeping Mr TA's pain under control, that is so important, not just for him, but for you and his family as well. Today must be very poignant for you, (((((((hugs))))))) I fully agree with the decision you made about retirement. We were lucky OH retired at 65 and we had 10 years before his health really deteriorated. Up to that point we had still been able to travel to France, Spain and the US. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Its a dull day here, I manged breakfast without spilling a mug of coffee on the bed, yesterday was a disaster, I had to strip the bed, a duvet and 2 pillows ended up in the dustbin, so we now have the winter weight duvet on the bed. It was a good drying day so I got the bed linen dry and because there was a breeze the sheet and duvet cover have just been folded and put away. I need to shove the iron over the pillowcases though.
I had a short while in the garden yesterday, its short but sweet, my back soon starts to tell me to stop. The gardener is coming tomorrow, I need him to empty a bag of compost into the bin we keep it in, its easier than trying to get it out of the bag without loosing half of it.
Fine but quite a bit cooler this morning, I have lit the fire, first time for 3 days.......
Pork for supper tonight, I have an apple strudel in the freezer, sill bake that for dessert with some cream.0 -
Morning all. Feel like I've been run over by a bus today, everything is creaky, got sores in my mouth, and generally rubbish...Probably not helped by contorting in the attic yesterday but at least the drip has stopped, and the water will now remain hot. Didn't get the dressing seen to, will think about it today, and probably not do anything about it.
I'm glad you made it to your anniversary TA, it just makes you feel a little bit better, like you made another milestone - I know it did for my father when my mother died. Glad the pain meds are sorted too.
Make it a good Sunday...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Just popping back to say happy anniversary to newroadahead and to the TAs.
TA it is good to read that Bob's pain is well controlled, both for his sake and for you all.
I will be going on an expedition to L idl with my OH really for rolls but a few other bits and bobs. It will be the first time I've been out for days. I thought I'd beaten this s*dding cold but it has come back. I sneezed myself into a nosebleed.
It is z my turn to cook. Not a roast, I haven't the energy, I'm just going to make some southern fried chicken.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all.
I'm having a weird Sunday .
My DD called in yesterday to hide some Xmas presents here for the DGC as Ar*os have 3 for 2 on toys. So last night I ordered some too, cue me going to 2 different stores this morning as neither one had everything I wanted. Still I saved some cash :j.
Came home to a phone call from Dad who is again ill and won't be over, seems like 1 step forward and 2 back. I asked him did he want me to bring his lunch to him and he has requested just mashed potato and gravy. So I shall walk up in a minute when the pots are cooked ( it's only about 5 mins walk ) because I don't want Mr Fix It at Dad's as he also has a sore throat and a cough. I've had to put my nurses cap on today and probably tomorrow as the DGS has the dreaded lurgy and both the DGC are coming here as their school has an inset day. If I miss all this illness I shall be surprised !
So a quiet Sunday afternoon is on the cards although I may do some ironing ( or not :rotfl:.)
TA Happy Anniversary my love to you and Mr TA. I second the finishing work early if at all possible. Mr Fix It was offered redundancy and we jumped at the chance as he was not well with his diabetes and having to travel a 70 mile round trip every day. Best thing we ever did, as little did we know that one year on he would be diagnosed with incurable cancer, aged 59. So "carpe diem" if you can, we have spent every day together and we have enjoyed every minute.
NRA Happy Anniversary to you and Mr NRA too. Enjoy the day.
Right I'm off to mash some potatoes, oh the joy :rotfl:.
Hugs to all
