I hardly download anything really, I just browse a lot for bargains and do a fair bit of ordering online, watching vids on youtube etc now and again but thats it. I do use e-mail a lot though for business.
  • Have a look at this then -www.newnet.co.uk/broadband/homelite12_nd.php

Gazza, I tried calling BT with a view to moving over to them if they could upgrade my line (C.S. adviser at Orange told me they could do this), they said there was a problem with the line in my area and could not advise what speed I could get. I think it's 1Mg. If it is 1Mg then will it depend on which provider I use as to how close I can get to the max 1Mg:confused:

You could try Samknows to see what services are available on your exchange,

BTW what does your modem say you are syncing at?
Hover your mouse over the two little screens in the system tray.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

When I hover the mouse over the little screens it says speed 256 Kbps, this is a rare treat though as it usually says 160 Kbps or on the odd occasion
192 Kbps, why does it change?

Orange are total c**p when it comes to customer service. Avoid !

You've obviously had a run in with Orange too, so where did you go just out of interest.

If your paying for 1Mb and getting around 130 KBps then that's right, be careful you're expressing the correct speeds when you write them down- Kbps is Kilobits and KBps is kilobytes.

As I say if you're getting 130KB (Bytes) then that sounds right for 1Mb, if it's 130Kb then there's a serious problem somewhere because that's barely double dialup speed.

The speed given by hovering over the connection icon is the speed the line was connected at for that session, if your speed changes all the time it sounds like the line may be at fault.

just connected again to make sure before I posted reply, it now reads
    SPEED 192.0 Kbps

Can I ask a question here please.. as I have same problem - I've tried to "hover my mouse over the 2 little screens in the system tray" - but I dont know what is meant by "system tray" and I have been hunting in vain for "2 little screens" anywhere at bottom of screen - the only little screen I can spot flashes "show desktop" when I hover on it. Possibly to do with me having Vista?

    Thanks

I have Vista on my laptop and there are 2 little screens on the bottom right of my screen, I'm not connected though so it has a red cross in front of them. It's more like 1 screen in front of the other.
