That really made me laugh, optimism and pessimism in one go
Two new tyres fitted, butchers visited, freezers stocked up...off to chemo in a minute, not looking forward to this one because of the threat of neuropathy in the fingers...saw the doc on Monday who did emphaise that if I felt tingling I was to say immediately, which was immediately followed by' but we do like you to have the full dose obviously because of blah blah blah' which I interpreted as, 'we want to give you the full dose, we don't care about your fingers particularly unless they're really bad', which makes sense, because I'd rather have no cancer than fingers that work, but in the long run, once the cancers gone, I'd like my fingers to work too....swings and roundabouts eh?
Anyway. Porch is marching on, looks like it's going to be a bigger job than I anticipated [ isn't it always the way?] because I'm aiming to insulate it better, but it tutnrs out what I thought was ecorative beading only, is a routed piece of wood that's 2 inches big, so if I want to insulate it better, I need to take all that out, then add another piece of wood in to anchor in the original wood panel, then add another piece of wood to that, then add a routed thick panel to the outside...Sometimes I could just kick myself....
Holly, before my chemo started I took on way too much stuff and wanted to do way too many things to get everything in order. I didn't do half the stuff I wanted to, but it turned out I didn't really need to do any of it. Deep cleaning etc, DIY gubbins, moving boxes etc, atempted re-wire...so just only do the absolute essentials unless you're looking for things to keep you busy and take your mind off it. I find that while doing things I can't think at the same time, but I did spend an awful lot of time thinking about, scaring myself to death with google, talking about it etc. Give your nurse team a ring and talk to them, or Mcmillan, they're really good and maybe will allay your fears. It's totally normal to feel overwhlemd because it's a damn scary time. But reach out if you need to. Don't bottle it all up.
P.S. thanks for the good wishes, the same to you all in return
I've typed myself out now, so good luck Thursday to everyone and to getting things done or not, and resting or not, and enjoying yourselves as much as possibleNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -

Quick post - DH got ‘the call’ 15 mins ago & was out the door in 8 mins & climbing into a cab. He is Very nervous but grateful the op is happening. My worrying starts now - so I am about to embark on the rest of my housework.
I will report back later & read everyone’s posts at that time.

Afternoon folks, a late check in from me here at the hospice. As soon as Bob had been washed and changed this morning we didn't want to waste a minute of this glorious weather and DD and I took him for a walk round the grounds in his wheelchair. It felt so warm we sat for ages at one of the picnic tables in the Sensory Garden soaking up the sunshine. Come lunchtime we moved to a seat nearer the hospice and brought his little bit of lunch outside and dined al fresco.
His little excursion tired him out and he is now tucked up in bed for his afternoon nap. He is so frail and weak now it's sad to see but he's still the same old Bob inside and never complains about the rough deal he's had thrown at him. The staff have grown to love him almost as much as we do and all call him their little sweetheart who isn't a bit of bother.
DD gone to have her lunch in the visitors sun room where there's always usually someone to chat to or a shoulder to cry on. Yesterday was a very subdued day as a young woman passed in the early hours and it was so quiet without her DH, brothers and family, and her little dog, none of whom rarely left her side day and night. This bl**dy cruel disease doesn't care whose lives it shatters does it.
Take care all and ((HUGS)) as always for all who need them xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
That's good MrsSD that he hasn't had too long a wait, and it's good to have the op asap.
Just having a baked sweet potato with pesto before the sewing group. We all decided at Scrabble that it's much more fun not to keep score, it means that everyone's equal.
I was handed another envelope for the hospice fund by a fellow Scrabbler. We all know someone who has benefitted from their brilliant care and attention, it's a wonderful service. ETA, thanks for the update TA. xxx0 -
Oh TA you made me have a little cry
I know when DD2 became a chemo specialist nurse i couldn't understand why a young girl she is just 23 would want to work on such a sad ward she said to me "Mum some days i cry all the way home once i walk out the door but most days i smile because i meet the bravest and nicest people and its not always bad we have happy endings as well and we have more good days than bad"Slava Ukraini0 -
Hi, I'm late to the party today. What a beautiful day it's been, as was yesterday.
Met up with DD and baby this morning, and went to cardmaking this afternoon, That's about it really.
Holly, you're doing really well, It's good to be organised, makes life so much easier.
AOD, sorry to hear your son is not happy with you - can you talk to him about it?
TA, it's good to hear from you. The hospice sounds so caring and lovely.
Bella, I did the same with Csarina's post - read too quickly and thought there was going to be a massacre in their garden!
Mrs SD, glad your husband "got the call", hope all goes well.
Thoughts to everyone else, especially the TA's
Take care folks.0 -
DH has called me twice - once to let me know he was all check in & the 2nd call just before 3 p.m. to say it appeared he was going to be the last person to be seen & there were 4 people ahead of him:( Have heard nothing else yet so don’t know if he has the op
Have kept myself busy - cleaning window frames, sills & the actual window :rotfl: The cloakroom floor has been washed using not so wet ‘Wet Wipes’ :rotfl:, skirting washed, toilet scrubbed & the area round the sink taps is finally clear of limescale :T Proprietary brands were worse than useless  so resorted to white vinegarWrapped wet wipe soaked in vinegar around the tap & left it to do it’s work
. The sink looks like new - OS is best :rotfl:
Also spent 45 mins chatting to the neighbour who is having an extension built - she had popped back to pick up her post :rotfl:
Need to find somethingelse to do while waiting for DH to call.
Apologies for not doing a proper post today - but (((hugs))) & good wishes to all

Wrote a long post and lost it, my own fault for not copying it .
Anyway had a good day with Dad, he was on his best behaviour :j. Stocked up on lots of stuff and hopefully we won't need to go again till just before Christmas.
I shall send healing vibes to the poorly, especially MrSD and also I hope the op went well.
Holly wobble away lovely, it's only natural. Please don't get bogged down with housework, it really doesn't matter if the dusting etc doesn't get done. Take it from one who realised that there are more important things such as health and recovery.
TA you're absolutely correct, that the bl00dy disease doesn't take any prisoners :mad:
Right I'm off to get some tea, we had lunch out so we only need a snack
I am sending hugs to all and healing vibes to the poorly.
nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0
