Old Style Daily Thursday 27th September 2018

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

  • Morning everyone

This morning I’ve got a hairdresser coming to colour my roots. He will put the colour on for me and then I will wash it and blow dry it. I prefer this instead of having someone sitting around here waiting for the colour to take. It also keeps the cost down as well.

This afternoon I have to collect something I ordered from Debenhams and I really do need to give the kitchen a really good clean. I need to get all the appliances out to clean behind them; I dread to think about what could be lurking there.

It looks like I will be going into hospital one day next week, probably towards the end of the week. I don’t know how long I will be in hospital and then how long it will be until I start posting again.

I’m starting to struggle now, and am finding it hard to cope with my feelings about the surgery and what the future holds, as well as how I’m going to cope in the shorter term when I first come out of hospital. I’m not even sure that it has fully sunk in yet, although it suddenly got a lot more real yesterday when I got the phone call and all of a sudden there is so much that I need to get organised that I have only just thought about.

TA my thoughts are with you and your family.

I hope that you all have decent day whatever you are up to.

    Good morning everyone :hello:
Holly, here is a huge hug for you ((((:) )))), there is nothing worse than the 'middle of the night' thoughts and fears. I really hope it all goes well and you make a full recovery xxx
Organza, I hope you feel a lot better today xxx
Thinking of the TA's as well, really hope they had a peaceful night xxx

I am up early again but I went to sleep at 10 last night so I don't feel as tired as normal. My friend is coming over this afternoon but she is still very unwell with her bipolar. However exhausting I find her visits, it is 10 times worse having to live with the condition so I will be dishing out lots and lots of hugs and cups of tea and most important of all, a listening ear.

I am well underway with my christmas shopping, I have finished buying for the grandchildren, Lilly is almost done and so is Lee. Just stuck on what to get Phoebe. Hopefully inspiration will strike soon. I want to get it all done early this year as I have a horrible sense of foreboding for the future. I know it sounds weird but I will feel more settled if Christmas is organised in case anything happens. Hopefully, the feeling will go away and everything will be fine.

I am making faggoty pea stew for dinner tonight for me and Steve. The kids don't like it so they will fend for themselves. The freezers are rammed so they should easily find something they want. Lee made a blancmange yesterday so pudding is sorted for a few days at least.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Big hugs Holly, Organza Lace and dumpling, and everyone else especially the TAs. It's only natural to feel vulnerable and just remember your virtual friends here are holding you in our thoughts, and shoulder to shoulder with you.

I didn't manage my swim yesterday because a neighbour came to the door with a deeply cut finger, so off we went to the local minor injuries unit. An hour and a half later it still hadn't stopped bleeding, so I came home to call her daughter (we had both left our mobile phones behind). However a transfer to A&E was avoided by using a much more powerful tourniquet, and the nurses were then able to ascertain that the tendon hadn't been damaged and then patch her up.

I was down to almost my last teaspoon of petrol, so was mighty relieved to make it into the nearby petrol station under my own steam! I've never actually run out of petrol, I prefer having at least half a tank, and it's very unusual for me to be on the fast flash which means, get to a petrol station now!

By this time I was beyond the off peak times for the pool, but I'll be there bang on the dot of 9.00 this morning. I've Scrabble later in the morning then a monthly sewing group this afternoon. The weekly sewing group in a nearby town is tomorrow morning, so between the two I should see definite progress with the everlasting tapestry.

The small chicken didn't get cooked due to the mishap, so that's happening today and I'll enjoy it all the more due to the delay. My veg box came yesterday, so I've a lovely selection of veg to have with it.

I woke up at 4.30am with the bedside lamp.on, my glasses on my face and Kindle on the bed. I feel I've had a good rest though, and it's quite nice to enjoy the early morning peace.

Wishing everyone the best day possible. xxx
  • Oh bums, long post disappeared again, hope I'm not in for another spate of badly behaved tablet.

Holly I think doing stuff now is very sensible as it will annoy you later and you will need to take it very easy after tge surgery. Will your brother be available to give you some practical support?

Organza, hope you feel better soon, would ginger tea help? I find it helps a bit with an upset stomach.

Dumpling you are so well organised, I'm certainly not.

    Hi wee midgie.

I slept better, am still sneezing and sniffing but now just for the West Midlands rather than for the entire UK. So that's progress.

My son seems very upset and angry with me and I think he may be just venting general dissatisfaction but it is quite hurtful. It will pass. At least I think it will.

Thinking of the TAs and of all of us with worries.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning All

Hope you feel better soon Organza.
Well done on the Christmas shopping dumpling.
Pleased to hear you are being looked after TA.
Well done on the weight loss Gers, something I need to do again, my eating habits have gone downhill!

It's still fairly mild out this morning and dry for now, yesterday it drizzled most of the day, quite gloomy.

I'm taking some children to a netball festival today, not really my job but there's a staff shortage (again). I hardly got any work done yesterday due to the photographer being in and then a meeting in the afternoon, hoping for a productive afternoon today.

Have a good day, take care. XX

    Good morning everyone.

It's very windy again although all looks dry.

I had a disturbed night, as it's unusual for me I tried to work out why. Think this happens when I take a psin killer beginning with T which rarely happens. It seems to make me all sort of twitchy as well as psin free. I only take one when my poor old knee is particularly sore, probably won't do it again.

As the westher stayed so mild yesterday I didn't light the woodburner, the first fire will have to wait for now.

I'm off down to Glasgow this morning, haven't seen DM for nearly two weeks so I'm a bit anxious - she doesn't always tell me when she's not well so I don't worry. Trouble is I worry anyway!!

Hugs to TAs and Holly, camelot I hope you enjoy the netball! Happy Thursday all round.

    Morning all

Not quite as cold here this morning, yesterday was like a summers day T-shirt weather but as soon as the sun went down in the evening it got very cold again, the log burner was soon lit and nice and cosy OH got a load of free wood so its costing us nothing ATM.

Work today my favourite day :j4 clients today one very quiet but lovely girl, one goth, one very funny nice lad, and B who talks about himself in the third person constantly and is the funniest man ever !!

Freezer emptying is going well will take a few more bits to work today and I think that will be it, I have got a cold box and cold packs for the fridge stuff Friday night so all good.

Ive got a gammon joint which I will put in the sc before work today and we will have ham egg and chips tonight, the rest we will have tomorrow night with some mash or something.

    Morning :)

Bikini laid out and ready for the promised heatwave .....:rotfl: more likely it will happen in Kent but no where else so Ill stick with my thermal undies and string vest for now.

Worked last night till 10 then cant get to sleep straight away so for me it was a late one. No surprise assailants though last night and my eye is fading to yellow...how lovely the jaundice look. Will have to strike this one up as unexplained.

Lots of work to do today but its the type I try desperately to dodge ...paperwork course design and invoicing. Will compensate with a bit of catch up tv and of course sun bathing if the weather guys were not just talking about the south...yeah right

HollyIt would be odd if you did not feel scared at this point and particularly when you do not have the support of an other half or large families or grown up kids however focusing on what you do have your brother is a lot better now than previously and I know you have a couple of lovely neighbours who I am sure will try to be there for you when you get home. You of course have us and we will be there for you as you are for others on here.

OL Good to have you back I missed your posts. Get well soon

    TA Hugs

Good Morning, Oldstylers :hello: - another very pleasant day on the cards here :D.

Yesterday turned into a very disorganised day - despite me getting to the hospital in plenty of time for my appointment. They were running an hour and a half behind schedule with appointments and then, as I was about to leave, the registrar decided to put me back on antibiotics (half hour wait in Pharmacy) and to request another knee X-ray (half hour in Xray Dept) - so even MORE delays before I could get off to supervise DGS1 . Got DGS1 to meet me in the town centre - just to give him something to 'focus on' and took him for 'cheapie pasties' (his request). No extra plans for today, so all should go smoothly (no fingers crossed smilie) ;).

You're doing very well with your 'forward planning', HollyHarvey - just make sure that you don't run yourself into the ground before you need to go into hospital. I wish a few of us lived close to you - a couple of us could be 'heaving cooker/washing machine/freezer' around for you, while others get the 'white vinegar/lemon juice and bicarb' ready :rotfl:. You do exactly the same as I do - get the hairdresser to do the 'awkward bits' and finish off yourself ;). I love the way that mine cuts my hair, but not how she blow-dries - no matter how I explain it :(. On the other hand, I'm more than capable of 'styling' it myself :D.

Organza - sounds like you had a lousy night's sleep ................ hope you managed to get back off again. I think I had a 'midnight visitor' in my bed .................. well it certainly LOOKED that way, when I woke up this morning - just a pity I don't remember any of it ;):p :rotfl:.

dumpling - well done on having your Christmas Present shopping all sorted :T - my grandkids all get 'the cash' now, so no more last minute panic about buying and wrapping ;)! Hope your friend isn't too much of a 'drain on you' later today - take care.

Wee Midgie - Oh dear - what a day of 'frustrated plans' you had yesterday :( - hope today runs more smoothly for you. I also frequently wake up with glasses crooked on face/head and kindle at the side of me :o. But, at least, they turn themselves off and you don't lose your place ;)! Enjoy your sewing group and Scrabble :D.

ancientofdays - thinking of you with your son. It's awful when we feel that something is 'out of synch' with our relationships with them, but just don't know why. Trying to read the minds of our male offspring is darn near impossible ;)!

Gers - sorry to see that you had a bad night. I'm lucky to be able to manage using Co-cods (15/500 now), but they really help to settle my knees long enough for me to 'drop off'. Safe drive 'down to Glasgow' and hope you find your DM well :).

redruby - enjoy your day in work - your clients sound lovely :). We've had lovely weather here all week - not sure what the weekend brings though. Going for a barbecue at DB's, so living in hope that we'll at least get some sunshine during the day.

Nelski - Thermal undies under a bikini sounds like 'THE LOOK' for this time of year :rotfl:. Hope your day goes well, despite the dreaded 'paper work' ;)!

Hard-up Hester - I'm not surprised that your brain turned to mush after 6hrs of childminding . I've a two year old DGS - 'The Bobster' - who has exactly the same effect on me ........................ love him to bits, BUT aaaargh - I'm useless after spending a few hours with him ;). Just had a thought - you weren't childminding on the boat, were you ? That really doesn't bear thinking about .

Thinking about Mr and Mrs TA, Mrs LW, Mr and Mrs SD and all others who need ((((HEALING HUGS)))).

I seem to have a lot of 'stuff' coming up this weekend that needs 'food making' for - not sure when it's going to get done :(. I think I need to keep tomorrow completely clear and just get stuck in for the entire day :undecided. Need to get to Aldi this morning for 'some supplies' before going to DD's to supervise DGS1 for the day.

So pleased that this week is almost over - not been one of my best - feels like so many 'setbacks'. BP has been up - increase in medication. Pharmacist was supposed to do my Flu Jab, but they were too busy. Knee wound not responding so back on Antibiotics again. I'm going to be 'really good' for a few days before going back to GP - want this BP to be behaving itself before I return to see him again :(.

Take care everybody - have a lovely 'Oldstyle Day' - let's make every penny count ;)!
