Getting compensation from a bank account

  • After the problems with cashplus what happened to the money that was taken for your insurance payment did it go back into your account or is it still missing Also when was the original direct debit supposed to come out have cashplus refunded the missed payment charge for that yet if not i would ask for it to be repaid as soon as possible once the whole mess is sorted i would look at switching to a different bank cashplus sound a bit rubbish tbh if they keep messing up like this its really unacceptable i agree with what others have said when youre getting new insurance quotes dont say youve had a policy cancelled if youre unsure you could always phone up a company before you actually take out a new policy to explain the situation and see what they say about it
  • le loup - What makes you think i didnt spot it? Will changing bank now sort this issues i am having?
  • MisterMotivated - Thank you for the input. They did refund the fee for the missed DD last week. And the payment for the insurance was put back in my account on Thursday last week so 3 days after i made the payment. To be honest they seem to handle the situation pretty well i cant really fault them it even surprised me actually. When i raised the complaint they were understanding, the CEO sent an email to every customer in which he explained what exactly happened it was a fault of their provider they say, and i think thats Natwest or atleast i've read it somewhere. I am not eligible for a bank account not even a basic one due to me being stupid 5 years ago and going crazy with my overdraft, i am hoping repaying that tho so im hoping that in a few months time when the debt will be 6 years old it wont have an impact on my credit score anymore and i can get atleast a basic bank account from Barclays. As with the insurance i will give it a try, i didnt even want to get a new policy yet tbh as im hoping that the insurer will just reinstate my old policy. I am waiting for their response as they raised it to the senior team so as soon as they get back to me i can then sort out a cover elsewhere.

basically what it is is the fact that due to having had a policy cancelled now, when i want to get a new one there's always the question : '' Did you have a policy cancelled, voided... ? '' and because of my ''bank'' i did have a policy cancelled so i have to say YES

I work in car insurance and you do not need to declare if a policy was cancelled for non payment, only if it was cancelled for something like fraud.

  • Thank you Mrs Ryan , I will give it a try but I'll probably just see first what the insurer says regarding my old policy. If they would reinstate that policy that would obviously be the best for me , then I would only want compensation from the bank for the few days that my policy was cancelled and I had to pay someone to drive me places.

on 20th received an email from bank , apology for their system issues.. And that they're trying to work out a way to compensate those directly impacted by the system breakdown..

In these circumstances I would ask the bank to sort something out directly with the insurer.
And if they cannot do so, make a complaint about both institutions together if that is appropriate.
  • I think it should be possible to get a basic bank account that doesn't charge for transactions - someone here will know?!

The insurance company informed you of a missing DD gave you a date to pay installment by but cancelled the policy before that date. That will be why they relented, obviously because the subsequent payment failed also they cancelled but did not give you the full time they were supposed to.

Best option is for the insurance company to allow policy to be reinstated if payment is made - have they offered this
  • Most basic bank accounts do not have any charges
