Serious car insurance help!

Options
Just read the thread about car insurance going up on quinne direct from switching from a prov to a full so i thought id have a look as ive jus bought my 1st car, not passed my test, and got a quote i was looking to get from quinne direct.

I was originally quoted at £1500 something with a prov, and when i entered a new quote with a full licence it was £3000 somthing! A real eye ball popping out the head situation!
Im now seriously worried what the hell im gonna do as that is not an option.
Fiat punto 16v 1.4 ELX Y reg and im 17, soon to be 18 btw...

Any help/suggestions much appreciated, thanks.

They are ludicous quotes on a 1.4 Fiat, the insurance is worth more than the car. Try the Prudential via https://www.quidco.com and get £95 cashback and for all of my family members the Prudential has come out the cheapest.

The insurance is high, as the risk is high.
  • Its a 1.2 not a 1.4 and thanks mate but my quote on that site was £2700 something.
  • My son was in the same position a couple of years ago and his first premium was £1950 third party with Direct Line for a rover 114 gsi R reg:eek: He now has a L reg escort 1.3 and pays about £750 with MoreThan. Good luck in your search.
  • The thing is its £1500 with a prov but as soon as ive passed am i expected for it to rocket up to £3000. Thats crazy

Can you not buy a older cheaper car, go with TPO (third party only) with a steering lock fitted to the car, or if its not too much TPF&T.

I see it that, if you smash it, you shall fix it.. :)

Though, im 27, and i drive a 04 RenaultSport Clio 182 (the 2.0ltr 16v thing), ive got no accidents, no convictions, no points, and 5 years NCB and i pay £457 full comp with £250 xs.

Stick with it, and in time it shall come. Your first step once passing your test is to not get any points within the 2 years.
  • Unfortunatly ive bought the car and the quotes ive given are TPO
  • My son passed his test and the premium from More Than was less than when he had a prov lic - you don't have much choice other than to shop around for the best deal. He is insured tpft.

Best bet is to get on the internet and just persist trying all the different providers and note everything down as you go. Then pick the cheapest.
