Hi And thanks for reading this thread.
I got an email from paypal stating if i wish to keep using paypal i must supply i.d. such as driving licence or passport, both of which i do not have.
I decided to close the account as without the i.d. i am effectively locked out.
I have £500 in the account and have asked paypal to close the account and transfer my money to the credit card attached to the account.
They keep replying with the exact same message, that they want id.
I keep saying i do not want to use paypal anymore, that i just want to close the account, but they keep giving me the same reply.
This has been dragging on for months, have i lost the money, what should i do.
Many thanks. Jack.

Assume you got locked out due to suspicious account activity.
Id is a requirement for money launderingEx forum ambassador

You state 'such as driving licence or passport, both of which i do not have.' and then say you have neither a passport or driving license- but the bit you stated only gave them as a suggestion, so use a different form of ID. It isn't paypal being difficult, as per browntoa this is a money laundering requirement and without it your account will remain locked as suspicious.
Call paypal ask what other ID is permitted, most of the time it is one scanned paper document and an authorisation sent to your bank account , and then money can be released to that bank account.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Is this normal or has the OP done anything suspect to warrant Paypal asking for ID ?0

Are we sure this is a genuine Paypal email and not a scam. I've had a number of "your account is locked" emails from Paypal, none of which are genuine and go straight to my spam folder if they've not already been caught.0

If there's no other way to get your £500 then it costs £34 to apply for a driving licence online.

Provisional driving licences are rarely acceptable as a form of ID at all -- usually a FULL UK driving licence (old style paper or modern with photocard) is required.
I think this is because, as pointed out, you can just buy one for £34 on the Internet0 -

Verification is normal. Even though I've had my PayPal account for years I have had to re verify a couple of times in the past.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I used to use my provisional as ID all the time before I got my full license, I never once had it turned down, even if something asked for a full license if I explained I didn't have one but had a provisional it was always then accepted so it's always worth asking.0 -

And I think you're wrong, a provisional licence is just as good as a full licence for ID purposes in most circumstances. Please provide some examples of organisations that require a full licence to prove ID.0 -

Well, according to here you can also provide them with a permanent resident card (just in case you're not eligible for DL/Passport due to that, though you'd potentially have a non UK passport so maybe a bit moot).
Aside from that, it sounds like you are faced with the following three options:
Forfeit £500
Spend £34 to receive £500 and a provisional licence
Spend £75.50 to receive £500 and a UK passport
Two of those options have a net gain for you. Whilst I certainly appreciate the inconvenience caused, I do think that something dodgy is going on here if you are willing to give up £500 so easily.0
