This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
Today will consist mainly of watching rubbish TV and reading books. I think that my trips to the coast have come to an end until next summer now. It is not suitable seaside weather now.
I have a list of things I want to get done before I go into hospital and I am slowly working my way through them. If I am in the mood today I will probably do a bit more batch cooking for the freezer.
I’m at the point where I have to have the heat on in the bathroom for a shower now, and had to use the tumble dryer for the first time in a long while yesterday.
Thinking of the TAs and everyone else who is unwell or caring for people who are.
HUH I hope that you found somewhere to moor and have had a decent nights sleep.
Hope you are feeling better today AOD, and that you didn’t develop a migraine.
JackieO I’m pleased to hear that Jack is enjoying fresher’s week.
Carolbee I love a murder mystery evening. I have been on a couple of murder mystery weekends in the past and really enjoyed them. I hope you had a good time.
Poppy – I’m pleased that you enjoyed your sister in law’s visit. It is good that you have extended family that is able to come and stay with you right now.
Csarina – it sounds like your husband is slowly getting better now. I hope that the new carers work out well when they come tomorrow. How is your back, now that you have had a full day without the medication?
Bellabella – that’s double you usual daily walking, now wonder you feel tired.
Hi primrose.
I hope that you all have decent Sunday whatever you are up to.0 -
Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread Hollyharvey.
I have been up for a couple of hours . I slept for quite a while yesterday and will probably do the same today. I'm not feeling great but I know this will pass in a few days. I am still getting some migraine lights (I get blue rectangles and the occasional swirling light) but it is rare for me to develop a full blown migraine, and I know I'm lucky in this respect. I am full of cold.
I will be doing similar things to you Hollyharvey today. I will be making dinner but that will be my limit today.
OH cooked yesterday, they had a huge meal of onion bhajis, pakora, poppadoms, chapattis, meatball curry, salad and raita. I had a piece of salmon with salad and OH made me some chips but I handed most of those over as I wasn't really hungry. Today will be roast chicken, with the usual Sunday dinner accompaniments.
Thinking of those who are worried or unwell.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's a very wet morning here but not too cold although I did crack and put the heating on last night for an hour as it was very chilly. The dogs are faffing around as they want to go outside for a wee but both hate getting wet so they are both stood by the back door looking at the rain.
I had a very late night last night but slept for 4 hours without waking so I don't mind. Eventually I have to do something about this insomnia as I get very unwell when I don't get enough sleep. I don't want to start taking sleeping tablets again as I found it nearly impossible to come off them again so I just have to sort out my sleep hygiene.
We have pork chops for dinner tonight and Steve is cooking and the kids are washing up so woo hoo, I get to read my kindle. I am on book 5 of the Harry Potter series and it is leading to some very interesting dreams :rotfl:. I am watching the films as well on a Saturday but the books are far far better.
I have finished knitting another scarf for Jemima, I just need to darn in the ends and then she can have it. I am a bit fed up of knitting scarves so I am going to make some furry fairies which are little white mice dressed in a tutu with wings and holding a star. They don't take long to make and they look super cute. I will make a few for my Christmas tree and also some for my nieces. I want to find a similar sort of thing for my nephews so I will have a look through my books to see if there is anything suitable, if not there is always Ravelry or Pinterest.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to whether you are batch cooking or just relaxing at home. Take care and big hugs for the poorly and worried xx0 -
Morning everyone and thanks for the start Holly.
Hope you feel a little better today AOD I do occasionally get a migraine and they always start with wiggly lines moving across my vision, I call them my head worms and try to take medication as soon as they appear.
Bit of a plumbing emergency last night, had switched on heating to come on for an hour in the evening and very soon afterwards water started dripping through the overhead light in dining room ceiling  cue bucket, towels and call to plumber friend. It looks like we have a leaking pipe under the floor in the spare room but the floorboards will have to come up to be sure and to be fixed, oh joy. It all smells very damp down here this morning so windows open and a small fan heating on trying to dry things out.
So, hoping today won’t be as dramatic, no plans really other than seeing Lu.
Thoughts are with the TA’s and all poorlies & their carers.
Have a good day folks x0 -
 - good morning, everybody.
Thank you for starting the thread, HollyHarvey :T. It's such a shame when trips to the seaside have to stop when the weather turns nasty at this time of year. Our nearest 'seaside' is Southport and it's so 'wide open' there that there isn't a scrap of shelter when you get close to the beach. My favourite beaches are in Scotland - they don't often get really good weather, but they ARE beautiful
.
Sorry to hear that you've been feeling so unwell, AncientOfDays - what a lovely OH you have to do a 'full on' Indian evening :T.
Hope you manage to get your sleep patterns sorted out, dumpling. After 25+yrs of working nights for a while (Care Home) and then disturbed nights (Sheltered Scheme Manager), I've developed crazy sleep rhythms and I KNOW how hard it is to get them sorted without resorting to meds. I'm quite good at the moment, but it's mostly down to the pain meds that I'm on.
What a disaster, LaineyT  - but what a blessing that you spotted it happening and managed to get it switched off again. Better to get the pipe sorted NOW than to have it go later in the winter. Have a good day with Lu.
Prayers and Healing Hugs for all who are feeling unwell or just need them for whatever reason.
My own plans for today include church this morning followed by a quick visit to A$DA.
Roast Chicken with Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, Carrots, Steamed Courgettes and Gravy for evening meal :j!
Have a good day, everybody!

Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off Holly
Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them.
Special thoughts are with the TA's
Why is it I can't keep my eyes open at 9 - 10 pm but the minute my head hits the pillow I'm wide awake? Lay awake for hours with so many thoughts rushing around, usually things I can't change or do anything about.
Forecast is for rain all day, I think housework needs to be done, if I can find the energy.
Hope you all have a good dayIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning folks. A brief one from me. Mr TA was admitted to the Marie Curie Hospice on Wednesday after a night of bad pain. They are taking it one day at a time now. Not on EOLC yet but I think we are all prepared for it happening very soon. Not that that will make it any easier to bear.
Meanwhile I am staying here beside him night and day and DS and DD (and of course the 3 DGDs) staying the biggest part of every day with me. We are all letting him know how much he is loved and the DGDs are bringing him poems and memories of happier times with photos to prove it, and these are blue tacked up everywhere.
The hospice is set in the beautiful Bronte countryside in lovely gardens which are a haven for rabbits, squirrels and a vast selection of birds. A haven of peace. The staff are absolutely lovely and we couldn't wish for better care. His room has a bed settee and a reclining chair for any family members who want to stay overnight. The patio door leads on to the gardens and is a bonus when the two younger girls are here and need to let off steam.
His siblings visit every day and my own DB and SIL too. They know he soon tires and when he dozes off they leave him and have a coffee or snack in the well stocked visitor's room. There is also a lounge for the use of visitors looking out on to a big pond and more wildlife. Such a peaceful place. I too am being very well looked after. Everyone bringing me food in and the staff keeping me well fed and watered too.
I will try and keep you updated now I have my lappie which DS brought in for me yesterday. WIFI is a bit hit and miss up here in the wild Bronte countryside. Thank you for all your good wishes and ((HUGS)) for all else who need them. xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning folks.
TA - thanks so much for the update, even though it's not good. It's reassuring that your OH is being so well looked after in the hospice. It's doubly reassuring that you are being cared for too. All the time spent with OH now will be precious in the future for all the family. I send you all hugs.
That's all for now.0 -
Hi everyone, cold and just started raining here, OH has decided it is time for the heating as and when we feel chilly:D
Holly thank you for today's thread, I need to follow your example and cook for the freezer, but am having a couple of weeks trying to use stuff up and will reorganise and relist first. Need to be ahead in case I pick up any nasty bugs this winter. AOD I hope that you get a restful day and feel like eating the chicken after you have cooked. Dumpling I hope that the sleep fairy will visit you and Silver-oldie soon, fortunately if I keep on top of my meds and supplements I rarely get that lying awake, brain racing thing now. Lainey what a worry seeing that water, fingers crossed it is sorted soon and not too expensive. Ollibeak you too with a chicken dinner, I might just start off now to join you:rotfl:
OH was very good yesterday and gave upstairs and the shower room a good clean, bless him. I then suggested he came with me to the garden centre to buy pansies and bulbs and we could have tea and scones. He had obviously been thinking and researching and said we could also go the the caravan dealers and look at something he wanted me to think about, (I had no thoughts of changing our van). Almost 3 hours later we had seen a brand new one that we both loved and got a price. Cue today going off in the opposite direction to look at something else and see what PX they would offer. It may turn out be be just an exercise it may not, depends how much dosh we would have to find. I did say that I am not prepared to sacrifice the new gas fire and carpet for the sitting room which is the next planned project.
Sending hugs and caring thoughts to all that are poorly or caring for loved ones that are, hoping that everyone has the best day possible. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Morning Everyone,
TA sending you and all of your family my thoughts. The hospice sounds lovely. Glad you are being looked after too, and that you have all of your family around. All you can hope is that Mr TA is kept pain free .
Sending hugs to anyone who needs them.
