Ceed 2 or Golf?

I'm looking to replace my car, as mine is getting a little small as the children approach their teens, plus the boot is tiny.

I have test-driven two local vehicles, a Kia Ceed 2 and a VW Golf. They're both about the same price, and the Kia has about 4 years' warranty left, compared to the Golf's 6 months' offer from the garage. The Ceed has a bigger engine, the Golf has more oomph, the Ceed has more rear legroom, the Golf is more fun to drive. The Ceed has a much higher driving position, which I enjoyed, but I felt more at home lower down in the Golf. The boots are the same capacity; insurance almost identical. The Golf garage offered me a higher trade-in value than the Ceed garage.

Question: should I go for the more sensible (?) option of the longer warranty and bigger car, or the one which is only a little bigger than my current Fiesta but is heaps of fun and might hold its value better long-term. I would be keeping the car for the foreseeable future.

Only you can decide what is more favourable to you. Both will do a job.
  • We bought our Ceed 3 SW with 4 years left on the warranty we are three years into that and we love the car. The SW has a really good sized boot so it might be worth looking for one if that is important to you.

Sounds like your heart is saying Golf but your head is saying Cee'd?

Entirely for you to decide. Theres a lot to be said for a long warranty though....

problem with going for the sensible one, (not that a golf isn't sensible, but in general) is that you'll always be asking yourself; what if.

You've got me- sensible versus enjoyable. Dub life :rotfl:

I've had a couple of people locally speak of very negative experiences with the Kia warranty, and then today someone made the point that in a handful of years' time the Golf will have some value where the Ceed may not.

We don't need an enormous boot, but the Fiesta's is small compared to the Golf/ Ceed. Don't want to have a huge vehicle, as parking here is awful- all on-street and lots of multiple-occupancy houses, so I'm trying to maximise space inside the car!

I think that I want the Golf, but need to know that it's not a decision I'll regret. (Even typing that sounds wrong :o )

I cant say its likely you will, go in with your eyes open, read reviews, forums etc

There are a lot on the road and despite VWs rather shady rep at the moment, the Golf is a good machine.

Oh and yes dublife is a thing ;)

The Kia warranty will be the 4 year's remaining manufacturer warranty, the VW one will be a 3rd party policy with the usual 'wear and tear/consumable' exceptions that make it virtually worthless.
Yes, the Kia will depreciate faster, but after 3 years the bulk of that penalty has already been paid by the previous owner.

You're buying a new car for more rear leg room, you've said the Ceed has more leg room. Go for that :)

VW quality is no longer a reality I'm afraid. They are living on long gone reputation.

It's still the better car to be in and drive, although he doesn't state which model of Golf he's looking at.
