yes but your talking totally different hardware specs.
the older consoles never generated the type of cooling issues the newer machines do.
M$ screwed up but its not viable to do a recall. my early 360 is working fine and since manufacturing costs drop as a consoles life extends its cheaper ofr M$ to replace on failure

My ZX80, Spectrum 48 and C64 have outlived 4 of my pcs, numerous HDs, Graphics cards and Sound cards. They no longer have a garauntee, but my faith is they will outlast my laptop and desktop threefold.

by the way, contacted ms yesterday, they put me in touch with a courier firm who offered to pick up the 360 today, but I was ringing from work so didn't have it with me, they're now picking it up in the morning.:T

Very easy, and bottom line i couldn't be a**sed with going to hmv and annoying the staff.

I've got a release day 360, standing up (not meant to), and in a poorly ventilated area (again, bad). Not a single problem, whereas one guy I know is on his 12th or possibly 13th now XD Microsoft have confirmed all machines are faulty with RROD, hence the free extended warrenty.

Also the extended warrenty is with Microsoft, not retailers - if a store takes back a machine over a year old, Microsoft penalise us with the full machine charge.
