Xbox 360 red ring of death

I dont think HMV will do anything because it carries a one year warranty and you,ve had it 1 year 2 weeks and the 3 year warranty is only with MS and it is only for the 3 lights problem and nothing else.
That one year warranty was the original manufacturer warranty and has nothing to do with HMV. It's pointless HMV offering their own warranty because they'd still be liable after it ended. Even if you'd had it two years, HMV still are legally responsible as the retailer for repairing and replacing any inherent faults that come up. That has nothing to do with warranties which are nothing more than a nice hassle free extra, it's basic consumer law, which will cover you for a lot longer than a year."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

SS you pop up on all these threads LOL and its the same thing each time. SALES OF GOODS ACT
HMV are responsible for selling a product that is free from inherent faults, the xbox 360 isnt free from inherent faults, you just need to search the web for people with the ring of death or 3 red lights there are way too many for it to be a one off faulty batch. As a result the seller is in the wrong and are responsible for putting the problem right. The sales of goods act doesnt state a time line but a guide is 5 or 6 years depending on the part of the UK you are in. a £300 games machine should last longer than 54 weeks.
You are more likley to get a replacement console from HMV that is new with the fault fixed quicker than returning to Microsoft and receiving a repaired machine back. I would try HMV first print the sales of goods act out and evidence that it is an inherent fault and take everything back to hmv. if you fail you always have the fall back of going direct to microsoft.0 -
My sons xbox 360 had one red light and E74 message on the tv screen. It is 14 months old. Phoned MS who charged £90 for collection and repair. Been away 3 weeks tomorrow and I've not heard anything from them so don't know when it will be back. When it does come back apparently will have a years warranty.
The three year warranty only applies to 3 red lights:mad: I red light is also a hardware fault but not covered by the extended warranty.
He's mad - preordered halo 3 and the day it arrived was the day it stopped working. He's not got to play it yet!!0 -
E74 error is normally down to just the AV cable being damaged.0

Or a warped mother board or damaged av chip.
We tried it with my brothers av cable and it still didn't work, therefore the call to MS and the £90 charge0 -
Guy that was probably lying and who worked in a big chain computer game shop said he fixed his 360's red ring of death by covering up the vents and leaving it on. He said most of the time the RRoD is due only to a seal inside breaking and that this melts it and fixes the problem... Sounded like he was talking a load of rubbish mind you but I know you get different combinations of the lights for different problems.Bought, not Brought0

This is actually a documented 'fix' - usually done by wrapping a towel round the 360 and letting it run. Trouble is, it only seems to last a couple of weeks. I0 -

I doubt a court would accept that a games console should last 5 or 6 years.0 -

Probably 3 or 4 years, but you'd have a relatively strong case for 5 years if you were to quote the manufacturers themselves in a recent poll that said their products should be reasonably expected to last at least five years."She is quite the oddball.
