That being said, I'll take advantage of a loss leader item sometimes. Fighting capitalism one reduced towel at a time.

  • I get the biggest one I can and once opened wrap in foil to keep it fresh and soft and its my Christmas treat to myself as I don't eat ordinary bread at all. After Christmas if there are any reduced I will snaffle them for a nice treat during January when I am marooned indoors in the ice and snow .Cheers me up no end with a hot chocolate, feet up and a good library on a winter's afternoon :):)

That may go over the heads of the younger folk. I wish they would repeat it, so I could see if it really was as good as I remember.
  • I wonder if I'm unlucky with my new local Lidl? The last time I went in the queues were horrific, nearly to the back of the aisles. A chav customer got enraged, dramatically threw their basket to the ground and marched off, having a go at the security guard (who was also having to man the self-checkout) as he went. Then a fight nearly broke out over places in the queue when another cashier did eventually turn up.

I'd been excited by bunches of flowers less than half the price of Sainsburys, but they only lasted a couple of days. The plastic-wrapped veg wasn't great either.

    Won't be rushing back.

I think so as well, maybe 'cos it's a new Lidl and a lot are just looking & trying out?

When our local aldi opened, for the first week you were lucky if you could get in the door. It was heaving. No problems now.

A valid question. Some tesco bloke on tv yesterday claimed the idea was to differentiate the two stores. "This is a specific budget store for people who shop in budget stores", "tesco can be a big store for those who prefer choice". I can understand his logic, but I think it will inevitably eat into tesco's own market share.

Anyone else hear in their heads - "this is a local store, for local people", when they read the underlined bit?:)
