It appears that Tesco’s has launched a rival to Aldi/Lidl called Jacks. Prices etc are very similar.
Anyone any thoughts?

Sounds a bit like if you can't beat them join them
Though to those of a certain age they are returning to their roots. I certainly remember regarding Tesco as a "pile it high, sell it cheap" store.0 -
Was wondering as they say it’s going to be 80% British produce/reared would people be more likely to use it over the German rivals?0

There are a couple of discussion threads on the Food Shopping and Groceries forum on this subject. The general consensus of opinion seems to be in favour of the existing German discounters. One life - your life - live it!0

Tesco is notorious in the past for cheap ingredients and high prices.
If they can get past that image they may have a chance but I doubt they will. The more I live, the more I learn.

VfM4 I agree Tesco's are getting worried as folk are now voting with their feet and as it looks like leaner times are ahead for us all with veg being just one of the affected things this winter I too shall stick to our german shops We had a large Aldi's open near us almost opposite a very large Tescos and their car park is always full and on a Saturday if you tried to shop in the afternoon the shelves are decimated.Whereas the Tesco store which used to be rammed ,now you can take your pick where to park
I know I can buy my groceries at at least a third cheaper than Tescos in either Aldi's or Lidls and when you live on a fixed income as a state pensioner you can' be fussy or precious about food shopping I perhaps use tesco's for petrol if I'm not near an asdas but apart from that I rarely if ever go in there now0 -

I go in and see if there's anything I fancy, look at the price, if the price is better than, or compares equal to, competitors I have access to then I'd buy it.
I never look at where stuff comes from. For me it's all about price, price, price. I aim to spend £10/week on all food/drink/treats and sweets, so there's no wriggle room for fancies such as food miles or patriotism.
Once I get to pension age and start raking in the state OAP income I can start splashing out a lot more, maybe experimenting... but until then it's all about price.0 -
Something I picked up from Yahoo:Ahead of the opening Tesco has released the price details of some products.
A tin if own-label baked beans will cost 29p
A 350g broccoli will cost 48p
6 Cox apples will cost 77p
4 pints of semi-skimmed milk will cost £1.09
500g of turkey breast mince will cost £3.35
So no incentive to stray from Aldi or Lidl, then.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I normally go for the cheapest item that suits my purpose, but I do like the idea of buying more British foods. I'm not a gammon-faced muppet but I feel like it must be better environmentally to eat British strawberries than imported ones, for example. As I said, I just go for the cheapest but if most stuff in the shop is British, that will help me shop in a way I consider better.
I always do my weekly shop at Tesco and have it delivered so I don't think Jack's will replace that, but if we had one locally I'd probably visit when I could/needed to. I'm happy with the value ranges at Tesco, and the prices, so I expect I'd be happy with Jack's.
I've seen people complaining that Tesco's value ranges have disappeared (people assuming that Jack's is why) but they haven't, they've just been rebranded under different names - https://cookingonabootstrap.com/2018/09/20/tesco-everyday-value-is-vanishing-heres-what-to-buy-instead/0
