  • Time_To_ChangeHi I have recently had exactly the same letter from PRA for a barclaycard account. Less than a week later I had another letter from them with some statement copies enclosed and a cover letter to say I had to contact them within 10 days to arrange payment. Still not sure if the debt is enforceable or not but they did come back pretty quick with the further paperwork in my case.
Hi, interestingly with mine the paperwork they have sent has a cover letter included from Bc dated Feb this year. So it looks like PRA have asked BC and they have written back to PRA with the 18 pages. Not sure if yours was the same?
Yes that sounds exactly the same as mine. The barclaycard letter finished with the sentence "this completes our obligations under section 78 of the act". I am not sure though why they deemed it as unenforceable then sent through these statements and now want me to arrange payment. I am just waiting for someone to look into it further. I will let you know if I find out anymore.

    Hi,
I'm just starting out on my DMP. I've cancelled all DD to creditors and have contacted PayPlan and have came to an amount I can repay but haven't given permission for them to contact creditors as yet as trying to wait for the accounts to be defaulted. A couple of questions that I would have is how do I identify that my accounts have been defaulted rather than just missed payment, will I get a letter from the lender or how do I identify this in a credit report?
Also roughly when would you expect accounts to default, I know this may be asking 'how long is a piece of string' but now entering 3 month and wondering when I might expect to see a default.
Thanks for your help with this it is really appreciated.

Hi, you should get a Default notice - if you don't pay I think a minimum of 6 months - but you are doing the right thing - the sooner they are defaulted the better. Your CRA's should indicate a default once reported.
I entered my DMP with PP Feb 2013 and the last default is dropping off this month. I made the mistake of starting to pay them straight away and have had many battles and complaints asking to add defaults, remove interest, and change default dates. Hold your nerve and expect quite a lot of chase letters but once you start your DMP and your creditors accept your offers, the only painful thing is your annual DMP review

Quick query please kind people - When setting up a self managed DMP do I need to send in a copy of my payslip to a creditor? They are asking for it ‘for the file’ but I don’t want to give them that information. There doesn’t seem to be any urgency on their part. No one else has asked for it who I am dealing with, they have accepted my payment proposals and all set up with no probs.

Simply put - no you do not have to provide a copy of your payslip, the I & E is sufficient.

    The guidance states:

"If you fall into arrears on your account, or you do not keep to the revised terms of an arrangement, a default may be recorded to show that the relationship has broken down.

As a general guide, this may occur when you are 3 months in arrears, and normally by the time you are 6 months in arrears."

Hi everyone, looking for a little advice, I'm just about to set up my DMP with StepChange and they've quoted me approx 7 years and 1 month until I'm debt free on my current level of income.

I just wondered if anyone had any advice for setting everything up or if you knew which creditors could be particularly difficult in terms of agreeing to the arrangement?  I have 8 creditors in total:
    Vanquis£816.00
    Marbles£1,068.00
    RBS£2,000.00
    Very£1,151.00
    Studio £585.00
    Capital One £257.00
    Lendable£5,265.00
    Creation £658.00
    Total£11,800.00
I wondered if anyone knew if any of the above lenders were particularly difficult to deal with at the start of the DMP?  I anticipate that Lendable might be a little bit prickly, at least initially however I really don't see another way out of my current situation if I don't deal with this head on.  Of course I am hoping my situation improves and that I'll be able to pay more to my DMP in the future.  I should say I am in Scotland and would have qualified for a DPP however, I pay board payments as I still live at home with my family and there's not a record of this leaving my bank account or a formal arrangement in place.

I just want this sorted now.  I'm not sleeping and I'm not eating properly.  Truthfully, I really can't see another way forward if I don't get this dealt with.  I've been suffering from really bad anxiety and I've been really struggling to see the point in continuing to struggle like this.

I also sometimes manage to pick up part time flex work around the festive period but this is never guaranteed so I haven't declared it on my DMP plan - is this something that could lead to my plan failing or being cancelled?

Hi Rebecca - i too suffer with bad anxiety due to my debts - im coming to the end of my journey and ive learnt that the most important thing is to make sure the creditors default your accounts. Creation never defaulted me as i never missed a payment and they argued that i met my contractual obligations - however this ended up with the financial ombudsmen and i got a default added back to 2013 - got 1300 in interest charges back plus £150 compensation. Personally I would not enter the DMP yet and ensure you get default notices for all your creditors - It's horrible at first and you will receive letters and phone calls - but once the DMP is set up and the creditors accept the offers of payment - the toughet part will be your annual dmp review with stepchange. I was with payplan (similar) but im now self managing my dmp and have asked for CCA agreements as some might be unenfoceable. Good luck with your journey and be brave.
