thriftwizard wrote: »Well, I'm off to a disastrous start; I had to call an ambulance to OH early this morning, as he was doubled up with chest pains & having difficulty breathing. We spent a merry 6 hours in Coronary Care; luckily he apparently has the heart of a 21-year-old, but also has trapped a nerve in his spine. By this time I was late to get DS3 & all his goods & chattels back to uni (year 7, middle year of PhD, preparation time needed before starting back on Monday) so spent the next 4 hours sitting in traffic jams. Reeling home exhausted, I just couldn't face cooking, not to mention the fact that Friday is my food shopping day, and I've just thrown out vast quantities of food from my store-cupboard, so there wasn't much there to cook! So £25 has gone straight away on fish & chips, but I think I'm going to take it out of this month's entertainment budget, as I'm not anticipating needing that for anything else.
@thriftwizard, I'm just coming onto the October thread to start posting and just saw the awful start to the month you had! I'm so sorry and I hope your OH is doing much better this week. What a way to start a weekend as well.0 -
We've had a few spends the past couple of days. However, we still need to buy some snacks for OH's work trip he's departing for on Saturday. Those will probably be a lot of nuts and cheeses. My budget for the month is €300 and I'm trying to keep it to €50/week with roughly €60.00 this month for bulk buying or special buys.
€13.88 at Delhaize yesterday for 2x Greek yoghurt, box of soup, shredded cheese, and a small loaf of bread.
€3.00 for recycling bags and trash bags.
€17.87 at Lidl today for shredded and ball mozzarella, dish soap, broccoli, bacon, 1kg pork chops, and a small jambonneau (a ham shank).
I bought the ham shank to use as a carving ham to eat throughout the week and may put half of it in the freezer to save for a split pea and ham soup later. Most of the pork chops will also go in the freezer. Later this week I'll head back to Lidl for toilet paper and lots of nuts and Babybel cheeses for OH's flight snacks.
TOTALS SO FAR:
€34.75 / €300.00

Sorry to all those having horrendous health related starts to the month and welcome to all newbies and returners.
Well i have been rotaed on now on a Thursday at work, which is the day my Dad goes to Aldi so slightly peed off; as was only commenting the other day that if i could come here most weeks and get the bulk of my shopping it would be so much cheaper ... spoke too soon!
Haven't got much freezer stock in and on a late tonight and tomorrow, so not sure if i will be able to squeze in a cheap delivery in from anywhere for tomorrow morning or a Friday. Might have to eek things out til Monday. Problem is i could do with pies and agave (dark) from Ocado, a big fruit and veg haul and milk from Morrisons and a few vegan bits from Sainsburys; but that would at least amount to three £40 shops, so thinking is it worth it!? I guess i'll have to muddle along til i make a decision.
I am going for £220 this month, as last month i came just over £210 (though i am well under my yearly target); and if i have big shops to do again i am not going to manage it.

Have bought my lunch to work with me today, cats need some food but they have enough for today so will get them some tomorrow. Aiming or a NSD today. It took me last month adding everything up for the first time to realise I spend too much money on food!

£6.36 in Aldee today on milk, meals for work, ST, shake n vac and custard.
Total including last weekend's shop £124.28/£360.
We are away 12th and 13th and then 20th to 27th. I am wondering if I can do a more detailed meal plan then shop this weekend to cover the rest of the month/19 days we are eating at home and the bits we need for our weekend away (a desert and a couple of GF things)? We may need a little fruit and milk and a takeaway when we return from our holidays but I will leave money in the budget for this.
We had the veggie pasties using the recipe I shared and DH suggested making them with a samosa style filling which is easy enough but I am struggling to think what I could serve this with for dinner or do I just use them for lunch boxes?Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

Spent £7.53 to day in Aldee, mainly on a plant and beef jerky for a friend who fed our plants whilst we were away. Also got bananas, baguettes and coleslaw.
OH went to a*da on the way home to get a bottle of wine to toast our wee cat whom we had to get put to sleep today out of the blue, and also bought 2packs of his favourite cereal bars for his pack lunches that were on offer. So £8.00 spent there.
Shouldn’t need to buy anything else this week, as I have loads in.
I have sausage and mixed bean casserole in the oven with baked potatoes. Smells delish Grocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)
