Good morning everyone
thankyou for new thread.
can GC goal for Highland Fling be £140 this month. I am trying to bring spending down a bit as utility bills are rising.
won't be starting until 1st of the month but good luck to everyone.0 -
Thanks for the new thread, Elsiepac. Please put me down for £120, starting 1st October. That is just for me and DH, our resident hollow-legged chocoholic. (I control his ability to each everything in sight by dishing up our lunchboxes at the same time as I dish up the main meal. He won’t raid those, but if it’s in the pan he’ll have it as seconds.)
I’ll be starting a new job on 1st October, which may mean changes to my kitchen-related activities, or it may have no impact whatsoever. I’m going back to my previous employer to rejoin the project I’d been working on before I left. (They begged.) The remit may be slightly different but I still expect to spend 3 days a week sitting in a portacabin in the middle of a field, in a highways depot somewhere in middle-England.
On the plus side, I will earn shed-loads of mileage - it all goes to the car fund - and they agreed to a higher day-rate. Also, I will be able to play down the podcast mountain during my commute (which grew madly over the last 6 months). On the downside, I could be stepping out of the frying pan and into Dante’s inferno, since I know how bad that company can be and they could get considerably worse.

Hi all
May I join the October 2018 challenge please? My first time on the challenge, and I’ll be working from 22/9 to 21/10 to coincide with DH pay day! I’m hoping to cut down a £100 a week grocery bill to £70, for two adult (that includes DH packed lunches) as well as food and litter for 3 cats. So a total spend of £280 for me please!
DH is home for the next couple of weeks after surgery for an umbilical hernia last Tuesday, but when he’s fit for work, he won’t be taking any cash, cards, nor contactless ways of payment with him. We’ve also cut out our habitual weekly kebab, so I need to replace it with something indulgent!
I’ve been browsing the recipe lists and have to say, found some lovely meals, and though not on the challenge for September, managed to save £70 by heeding much advice found on the forum!
Shopping this week was £68.25, but needed to buy extra fruit and veg to keep DH’s digestion ticking over, post-op!
ThanksOCTOBER £280 spent £341.10

Hello,
I have not done this challenge for a few years. I would like to take me spending back down and normally spend £100- £125 a week so would like to take this down to £90.00 a week for our family of 4 + cats. S. from 1st to 1st of Nov. is 5 grocery shopping days for me .... so.....£450 for October please :-) (Saving £50 :-) )0 -
Hi there,
I’m a “returner” after a few years absence from the Challenge. I used to really enjoy this but got out of the habit due to illness.
I’m going for £ 250 for Oct. This is high for 2 people but includes milk delivery and egg delivery. I like to support my local deliveries even though it’s a wee bit dearer. I want to trim in other areas to compensate
Trying to figure out how to change font colour on ipad, will edit to make amount clearer!
you will always be rich enough to be generous.0 -
I didn’t bother in September but I’ve got no savings at all for Christmas so I need to save some money somehow
£250 for October for everything. I need to force myself to use the freezer stocks upOne day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
Thanks for the new thread elsiepac and :hello: to regulars, returners and newbies. Wow, can't believe we're nearly into October already!
I'm still posting in the Sep Challenge but I'll be in again please for Oct with £140 for 2 adults, groceries only (household/cleaning/toiletries have their own budgets) to run for 4 weeks from 30 Sep to 27 Oct.
October for me will be jam/marmalade making and starting to prep for you-know-when in December.Might be a bit too early for some I know, but I hate having everything to do at the last minute. And it helps spread the cost too.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.0 -
Hi everyone, and thanks elseipac for starting the thread again!
Please can I go down for £300 for October? Still got cupboards and freezer full, so hoping to come in well under that figure, but will also be starting to stock up on things for Christmas.
