"Lesson has been learnt". Regrettably, you have learnt the wrong lesson.
So what should it be then?
I've learnt that I'm not a leader like mangement have been trying to make me, that I'll just turn in and do the job I'm paid for and not be pushed to do a job I'm not suited to or trained for. I've learnt that I'm a dinosaur in the modern work place, so best to keep my head down and mouth shut in future. I am changing my attitude too, learning methods to keep my head.
This episode has opened my eyes to quite a lot in my workplace, some of which will never change due to management and industry practice. I am not putting myself in that situation again, if that means refusing to work with someone then so be it, I'll take my chances over that.0 -
This wasn't the first time we had had this discussion either thus it getting heated, but this is part of training that can't be replicated in classroom.
You might also consider asking for some training yourself, in being a good and effective trainer. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Well if you are genuinely willing to "take your chances" then fair enough. However it could seriously come down "you are instructed to supervise and train XX, if you don't like it resign or be fired".
Sometimes you have to accept that the workplace is no longer the way you would like it to be (or used to be) and you have to do the bidding of those that pay you, in the way they want it done.0 -

I'm not a trainer though, I'm just an engineer. None of the seniors are trainers, we just show them what to do as we're doing the job. Its the way on the job training is done through our entire industry.0 -

I can categorically state that it will never come to that at my current company, and it hasn't in the 6 years that I have been there or in the previous 12 years in the industry. We do do the bidding of the ones who pay, and I understand what you're saying, but it will need a major change of owner and management for that to come in.
The management and supervisors allocate work and team members to make sure the job gets done effectively and on time, putting people together who don't want to work together would not get the required work done.0 -

So you are, in effect, a trainer. Part of your job involves showing those less experienced how to carry out the work. A trainer is not just somebody with that job title or limited to standing at the front of a class room.0 -

You're (plural) lucky at the moment that management / supervisors pander to the whims of their staff.
I always thought it took adults to work with people that they'd wouldn't socialise with0 -
Polite update as I have been chastised elsewhere for not doing so:rotfl::rotfl:
Out come of the investigation was no action taken due to the breach of health and safety rules by the trainee, but a letter of concern regarding my attitude due to a reply I made in the interview.
All taken on board and a change has been made.0 -

O the irony.
