Untaxed and uninsured vehicle

Its not taxed, and as for owner not wanting to go through insurance, I wouldnt imagine he is insured
It doesn't matter. Your obligation to report it to your insurers does not alter. You should do so for two reasons:
1. It is almost certainly a condition of your policy (it has been in every policy I've ever had)
2. Matters such as these sometimes have a habit of going pear-shaped. You might find, for example, that after you had bunged him a few quid to patch up the minor damage he suddenly remembered that he was sitting in his vehicle at the time and was injured to the extent that he had to take ten weeks off work.
Report it to your insurers and let them sort it out.0 -
Thanks for your advice, car will be repaired at the weekend at our cost"I live my dream today, I lived it yesterday and I'll be living yours tomorrow":smileyhea

We keep our vehicles taxed and insured at all times.
The vehicle he hit hasnt been taxed for over 2 months, hasnt moved for over 3 months. We have no issues about paying for repairs to vehicle at all.
I was told by a friend that we are under no obligation to pay, as vehicle shouldnt be there if uninsured and not on a SoRN,
But came on here to ask if this is the case.
Why don't you/he reverse onto the drive to make for an easier exit?0 -

The way that cars were parked on the carpark opposite made it difficult to reverse onto our drive, thats why he had to drive it on.
Normally do reverse onto drive, but on this occasion was unable to"I live my dream today, I lived it yesterday and I'll be living yours tomorrow":smileyhea

This car isnt taxed or on a Sorn, we have contacted the owner, and he will be coming to see us later. He doesnt want to go through insurance ( obviously isnt insured )
Is my husband liable for any repair costs for this vehicle, which has been left there for nearly 3 months and hasnt moved ( apparently water pump has gone on it) thats why its been parked up.
Morally we think that we should offer some money towards repairs, but legally are we obliged to do so ?
Yes he is liable for the damage. The other vehicle owner can even make a claim against your husband's insurance even though his own vehicle is uninsured. Not having insurance, tax or a MOT on a vehicle you hit doesn't remove the rights of the third party to be compensated or to make a claim against you.gorgeousgeorge wrote: »The way that cars were parked on the carpark opposite made it difficult to reverse onto our drive, thats why he had to drive it on.

Sorry but if you can drive into it you most certainly can reverse into it - the vehicle is following the same path of travel. Given that he reckons he couldn't have reversed into the driveway and when reversing out of it hit the other car it suggests the real reason he didn't reverse into the driveway is because he's rubbish at reversing. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The camper may have a huge rear overhang which would make it impossible to back in between two cars if the road isn't wide enough.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I assume its an older car, so the value of the car could be less than £200
Offer to buy the car(<£200), then then sell it on ebay.0
