Untaxed and uninsured vehicle

After advice, opposite our house is a small car park. Whilst my husband was reversing our motorhome off our drive, he unfortunately hit a car parked opposite. This car isnt taxed or on a Sorn, we have contacted the owner, and he will be coming to see us later. He doesnt want to go through insurance ( obviously isnt insured )
Is my husband liable for any repair costs for this vehicle, which has been left there for nearly 3 months and hasnt moved ( apparently water pump has gone on it) thats why its been parked up.
Morally we think that we should offer some money towards repairs, but legally are we obliged to do so ?

If you don't want to work, you have to work to earn enough money so that you won't have to work

Yes your husband is liable.
Whether it's taxed or insured his liability won't change.0 -

Are you assuming that or have you checked it online?0 -
Of course you're liable for the damage caused. The fact that the car is untaxed or uninsured does not change that.0

Yes, whether you want to go through insurance is up to you.0

"which has been left there for nearly 3 months and hasnt moved ( apparently water pump has gone on it) thats why its been parked up. "
So its not like your husband did not know it was there ?
How would you like it if someone reversed into your motorhome and you realized your insurance had lapsed and said should we pay ?0 -
Legally your husband is liable regardless as to the tax or insurance status.
The third party can still go through insurance. They just contact your insurer directly who will arrange for repairs. Alternatively, they can instruct their own Accident Management Company or solicitors who will act on their behalf.
If you negligently collide with a third party, you’re liable whether they’re insured or not.0 -
Yes! your husband is liable to damage. You guys should pay repair charges. I remember last time, one man who hit our bike that was insured at that time and he paid to us for damage. Actually, it was the bike that we bought to use for fast food delivery and was just comparing ] for it. I hope you understand the matter and I will advise you to pay to avoid any legal hassle at this time.0

And don't forget that it is almost certainly a condition of your policy that you inform your insurers of the incident. Whether or not the Third Party "does not want to go through insurance" is immaterial.0

Its not taxed, and as for owner not wanting to go through insurance, I wouldnt imagine he is insured"I live my dream today, I lived it yesterday and I'll be living yours tomorrow":smileyhea

It was awkward reversing off of our drive, and car hit was at an awkward angle.
We keep our vehicles taxed and insured at all times.
The vehicle he hit hasnt been taxed for over 2 months, hasnt moved for over 3 months. We have no issues about paying for repairs to vehicle at all.
I was told by a friend that we are under no obligation to pay, as vehicle shouldnt be there if uninsured and not on a SoRN,
But came on here to ask if this is the case."I live my dream today, I lived it yesterday and I'll be living yours tomorrow":smileyhea
