Kitchen respray

hmm
oak kitchen resprayed
what do you mean ..spray it a different colour ..or clear coat it
I wouldn't do any of them by spray
I wouldn't change the colour ...oak is supposed to be clear coated or wash-stained or waxed right on top of the Wash stain or bare...
You can get a great finish ..just by hand ..
Varnish/ clearcoat, by its very nature if done by expert hands, does not leave brush marks ..the finish of the oak is rarely perfect ..and varnish/clear coat brush marks will not show...well i say brush marks ..i would be using rags probably ..with few coats and rub downs with wire wool....satin finish.
My way of doing it would be to get it back to bare wood .then on from there ..with no worries ..and knowing and very confident i could get it to look very good..that's me though ..and I'm not for hire .
If you insist on hiring someone get a French polisher to do it .,..
They wont necessarily French polish it ..they are/ should be .. good at what ever finish they put on it .
BTW ..a sprayed finish may end up with it loosing the grain ..the little imperfections in the open grain of oak is what makes oak what it is .
IF YOUR KITCHEN IS FAKE OAK ..MDF ECT ..FORGET ALL ABOVE .

We decided to revamp our 20 year old kitchen by just changing the cupboard doors and drawer fronts. These are solid oak but after 20 years they had taken on an orangey colour so we thought the easiest thing would be to get them dipped and re-varnished. A local company said it would not recommend dipping oak, so hand stripping was probably the only answer.
We finally decided that after having the same units for such a long time a complete change of colour and kitchen style was what we needed.
We checked out replacement vinyl doors and drawers, but were quoted £1,100.00, which didn't include a cooker hood, so we decided on a re-spray. Some people might consider painting oak is sacrilege, but anyway that's what we decided to do.
The company we used was Spray Craft in East Sussex. They were so professional and the quality of their work is excellent. They charged £700.00 and I couldn't recommend them highly enough.
We live in South London and were able to deliver and collect ourselves, but I think they would do this for a small extra charge.
As I said the finish looks fabulous and we're so pleased with our "new" kitchen.0 -
Hello !
Just a thought .. But why don't you take the doors off yourself and take them to a car garage to sand down and paint ?
I did that with some old pine doors , the finish and price were fantastic0 -
At some point I would like to paint my kitchen units (one of those jobs I keep thinking about) Is it better to use an electric sander or do it by hand and what is the best paint to use, I quite like the washed look0

We did ours ourselves. Took the doors off, sanded down outside, sprayed with Foliatec (used for car dash resprays) and sealed.
Look great, and didn't cost much at all- mainly time.0 -
