It's stretching the road traffic act some what to say that.

More likely they'll deal with the criminal damage as it's easier to sort out.

You are right, first time I've actually read RTA 1988 section 170, I'd always believed the Police advice that you had to report an injury accident if it wasn't just you.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Shall we have a poll then, everyone who thinks that it is perfectly acceptable for people to reverse out of their drives without any regard for what might be on the road/pavement (at speed usually, in my experience), and then continue to run someone over who is actually banging on their car please raise their hand.

    I despair sometimes...

It's not really an injury accident though is it?

Oh the irony. Can you point out where in the Road Traffic Act it says the Highway Code is the law? The Highway Code is a book advising best practice with some references to the law (HC riles which say "MUST" in them). Always has been, always will be.
    Irony?
What are you going on about, as an ex driving instructor I am fully aware of the purpose and contents of the highway code which is why I was asking them to point out where this rule is in it that states that it is illegal.

3 million people failed to get to work today as they were unable to exit there driveways

Another one who does not read the highway code.

It is illegal to reverse on to the public highway. End of. No argument.

Now report it to the police and claim off of the car drivers insurance.
    Not "end of"...

    The HC states:

    201
Do not reverse from a side road into a main road. When using a driveway, reverse in and drive out if you can.

    202
Look carefully before you start reversing. You should
    • use all your mirrors
    • check the ‘blind spot’ behind you (the part of the road you cannot see easily in the mirrors)
    • check there are no pedestrians (particularly children), cyclists, other road users or obstructions in the road behind you.
    Reverse slowly while
    • checking all around
    • looking mainly through the rear window
    • being aware that the front of your vehicle will swing out as you turn.
    204
The most vulnerable road users are pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders. It is particularly important to be aware of children, older and disabled people, and learner and inexperienced drivers and riders.
There is nothing to say you MUST NOT reverse out of a driveway.

I still think the driver was absolutely in the wrong, but let's get the rules right...
