Some do, most make choices which mean they are going to have to rent.
I have sympathy because I made a lot of the same choices, but I turned myself around in time to buy.
I agree, poor choices are often the cause for most people, but we live in a world where they are encouraged to make poor choices, like leased cars and buying the latest gadgets. And let’s face it if they didn’t, we wouldn’t have growth in our economy.0 -
I know quite a few people who rent. Id say most of them are as happy as me who is a homeowner.
Theres the friend that rents because its cheap. He can get sent around the world from time to time to kill some baddies. Never thought of him as an unhappy person. Not too bad of a wage, hes never going to be a millionaire like, not until his parents peg it anyway.
Then theres the friend that doesnt even really rent. He kind of sofa surfs. He spends most of his time travelling around other countries. Gets a decent wedge working online. Owns little, loves his life though, i think its a life quite a few would envy.
Another friend who rents, shes regularly flying around the world to market sporting events. Earns 6 figures, but there isnt much sense in putting her money in property. She uses other vehicles that return better.
I know someone else who rents and earns £250k+ year. Hell need to move so doesnt see a point in getting involved with it.
I know loads of people that could easily afford to buy but rent. Theyre happy people. They are all under 35 though. My neighbour doesnt seem too happy, theyre older and they rent.
If you look at the happiest places in the world (Finland, norway, Denmark, switzerland, holland and canada) theyre all more or less around the same ownership levels as the UK. Yet were generally unhappier.
If you look at the countries with the highest levels of ownership, theyre generally from the eastern bloc, and have you ever met a happy russian or slovak? I havent. Met loads of happy swiss people, less than half the country own their homes.0 -

I do think that when selling PCP finance that they should have to explain that the monthly payment is the depreciation of the car. I wonder how many people would be put off getting a new car and instead opting for second hand. Of course without the people wasting money on these new cars, there wouldn't be second hand cars for us to buy either.0 -

Are you for real?!
Probably isn't, but just enjoys bragging.
There's nothing wrong with renting, except that with property being made into a 'market', rents are just too expensive. I'm sure that developers and other powerful vested interests have also worked to impose a stigma on renting in this country, because it is to their benefit to make huge amounts of money from property.
My grandparents and parents lived in housing association flats without owning. They were/are among the most honourable and decent people I know. A relative in another country is a distinguished dentist (definitely what I would call upper middle class, unlike the people that this poster associates with such a class) and has lived in a rented flat with her family her whole life. There is no stigma attached to her or her family at all.0 -
I always thought that there was going to be a big crash way back in 2001 and used to visit housepricecrash website all the time . But it never really happened in the U.K .I am still amazed at the way house prices have risen since then especially in London0

And?
Are you sure they aren't just blow-up dolls (many certainly look as though they are)? They are probably after fat old men with money. If those are the sort of people you aspire to mingle with (and think it's some kind of an honour to do so), I truly pity you. All sounds rather ghastly.
Anyway, have fun in your world. I'll stick to mine, thanks. :T
The jealousy of you people, why do you have to insult beautiful people for just being beautiful , I am sorry we have homes you dream of, kids we can send to good schools, holidays that are not Butlins, you could have it maybe as well if you stop listening to doom mongers and renters0 -

From my experince renters by and large lead unfullfilled, chaotic, unsettled lives with very little foundation or security, so they are more likely to have suffered troubled unhappy experiences, possibly from birth. It is thoses experiences that will make those types of renter unhappy, not the actual fact of renting.
Basically they are losers HPC :-) ..I have had a great night tonight and still have have half the cash in my money clip that I was prepared to spend, have you ?
It is not a secret why pubs are closing these days, so many of us now have wonderful homes to live and entertain in, why go to a horrible pub0 -

Central banks have had the printing presses rolling. Has to end up somewhere. Then there's Russian money laundering. Danske Bank appears to have misbehaved in the UK. Be interesting to see what gets uncovered.0
