E.on smart meter removal
Options
Me again... E.on want to charge me 65.00 to remove a smart meter for a standard meter.should i be paying this, before I do. E.on's policy states they will charge to change a meter if it is not deemed faulty but I never requested a smart meter in the first place, the orgiinal E7 meter was faulty and they replaced it with a SM. Im going from E7 to GCH ( I posted another thread on this, and no i dont want to keep the E7 meter).
just wondered if anyone else with E.on has had to pay this fee

If you want the meter changed, then you will have to pay for it.
Suppliers typically only don't charge for ESSENTIAL meter changes, such as them being faulty, end of life, etc.
I didn't know Eon were fitting E7 customers with smart meters, and even if they have recently started, I don't think ythey were doing so 18 months ago which is when you claim thhe smart meter was installed.
We've got GCH and E7. Have had this for the last 30 years. Always saves us money (or at least doesn't cost us any extra - we keep checking
But I've already discussed this previously with you

Sorry you have to pay for it. like I have said in another post Eon can remotely change the set up of the smart Eco 7 to single tariff without changing the meter if thats what you want
Thats how it is I m afraid.even at £65 quid Eon are only sharing the costs..Scottish Power used to charge £215 per meter if a customer wanted a prepay changing for a credit meter so £65 appears to be a bargain.
OFGEM banned these costs suppliers charged for this service in 2014 but this will not apply for Eco 7 swaps.
Try changing to another supplier such as EDF who have a good record for free meter exchanges.
for advice to Wavelets, Eon started using Secure Liberty meters last year.
These meters can be used with smart Eco 7 so maybe that is why they are popular for Eco 7.
The only way I know that they are smart Eco 7 is because I have come across them on my meter reading duties and was baffled why I could nt find the Eco 7 day/night reads on the usual button 9.. They were on button 6 on the keypad
BG and others still can t do smart Eco 70 -
A meter is a meter - a replacement for a Smart Meter will look externally just like a Smart Meter only it wont communicate.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

E.on swapped my E7 meter for a smart meter configured for E7 almost 2 years ago now. Apparently if I'd asked to go to single rate at the time, they would have fitted a meter configured for single rate for no extra cost, but I didn't think to so now I'm stuck with it unless I want to pay or find a supplier that will do another 'free' swap, replacing my (now dumb) meter with one of their own smarts.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). Both these two rates are less than anything I can find for single rate in my area so whatever your night rate percentage its the lowest rates.
Clever pricing of Eco 7 by Y.E pricing the day/night rates more or less equal.. Aimed at the hundreds of thousands of people who have Eco 7 meters installed as standard even though they have gas central heating from new.
Town s in my area like Retford, Worksop, Sutton in Ashfield all have lots of Eco 7 meters and gch. The 30% night rate to make E7 pay mantra offered on here is wrong.0 -

just checked.. when the engineer came out in May to change the smart meter display he said you have had this two years which is not bad going - just remembered that..0 -
Before you get involved in getting rid of Eco7 have a look at Yorkshire Energy and their current Eco7 rates..Night was 11.8 p/kwh Day was roughly the same at 12 p/kwh..21p DSC.that is in my area.

Do you know what there gas rate is by any chance ? god im really torn now,, I did want to go with YE but i thought it would be better for a credit meter to get a good dual fuel rate... Youve helped a lot tbh with your info - im still should i shouldnt i... Im not getting any benefits from E7 rate at poresent. my cheap rate set hours doesnt affect me.. I do washing at weekend during the say and drying.. i go to bed at 9.30pm due to early starts and out of the house at 6.15am... are you sure I wont get stung if i leave the meter in, what if i want to change suppleir again in 12 months ?

They have priced the night/day rates more or less the same so it would nt matter what night rate usage would be. The rates, in my area , are about the best available regardless of what type of meter is installed. Your area may be different from mine, the best way is to consult a comp site making sure they "show all suppliers available " and not just the ones they get commission for
Not sure if they offer a good gas rate.
Personally I will be going separate gas and electric suppliers for the next years fix. That is the cheapest option for me at the moment .0 -

Yes, it's a little more in my region 12.9/12.2p with 3.3p for gas, which does make them pretty competitive, I'm just a little cautious about very new, very small suppliers after my experience with Iresa.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day).
