Me again... E.on want to charge me 65.00 to remove a smart meter for a standard meter.should i be paying this, before I do. E.on's policy states they will charge to change a meter if it is not deemed faulty but I never requested a smart meter in the first place, the orgiinal E7 meter was faulty and they replaced it with a SM. Im going from E7 to GCH ( I posted another thread on this, and no i dont want to keep the E7 meter).
just wondered if anyone else with E.on has had to pay this fee
Hello cazacs16. I've posted a reply to another thread about your questions at the following link.

Changing the meter to allow a move from Economy 7 to single rate prices is classed as a non-essential exchange and, as such, carries a charge. As in the above link, with us, there's no need to change the meter to have single rate prices with Economy 7 meters. It's something we can do without a meter exchange and applies whether the meter is smart or not.
Hope this explains our position cazacs16. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

That way the customer could switch away from Eon to another supplier if they want and have a dumb meter set in single rate only with no meter exchange necessary.
I know its not good business for Eon to do this but is it possible ?.
I do some work for Eon sometimes in the York area and their earlier smart meters were Landis Gyr s, now they use Secure Liberty which can operate in smart Eco 7. Possibly the L and G meters can t do that .
I know BG can remotely change their smart electric single rate smart meters (landis Gyr ) to a multi rate meter, ( to their free 8 hrs weekend tariff )So can you tell me if Eon can do the same thing and remotely change their Secure Liberty smart meters from Eco 7 or even Eco 10 to single rate or do these need some wiring change ?0 -
Ideally Malc it would be better for Eon to remotely change the Eon smart meter from Eco 7 to single rate tariff. They can do that can t they ?.

Hello Houbara and, to be honest, I don't know so I've just asked the question. I'll let you know more once our smart meter specialists have come back to me.
I can tell you, since we began installing smart meters, we've used several suppliers including Elster, Landis & Gyr and Secure. I suspect there could be different information depending on the manufacturer. Guessing though.
Also, we've started fitting SMETS2 meters and are planning to remotely update many of the SMETS1 meters installed earlier so they're managed in the same way as SMETS2 including being able to work and communicate following a change of supplier. This, too, will probably influence the answer I'm given.
I'll let you know more once my colleagues have come back to me. Thanks Houbara.

Hello Houbara and, as promised, I've a bit more information for you.
At the moment, it isn't possible for us to remotely switch a two-rate smart meter to single rate. This is due to changes that would need to be made behind the scenes to industry wide system configurations used to identify individual meter types at each property. These match the time patterns used to switch meters over from a day to a night rate. These configurations are used by us the meter readers and the technicians.
At present, to change this would need a meter exchange. a benefit of keeping both readings is it allows us to continue to record day/night usage which could help customers decide whether Economy 7 is a better option following a potential change in circumstances.
As I've mentioned above, this doesn't affect our ability to charge all usage at the one rate where a customer asks for this option. We can do this and retain details of their usage pattern should a customer change their mind at a later date.
This isn't set in stone. Situations like this are being looked at as part of the overall national smart meter roll-out. It could change but, for now, we can't remotely switch Economy 7 meters from two to one rate.
Hope this helps Houbara. Let me know if you need any more information and I'll do my best to find it for you.

Don't suppose there's a waiting list for that is there?

Afternoon Raxiel and I'm afraid I can't give you a concrete indication of when we'll be doing these updates.
At the moment, we're involved with an industry wide initiative aimed at migrating SMETS1 meters into the Data Communications Company (DCC). Once done, we'll be in a better position to talk about time frames.
I've just spoken to one of the project managers and have been told we're looking at next year at the earliest before we start to do these updates.
Sorry I can't give you anything more positive at this stage Raxiel.

PS/ I've just realised I didn't phrase my earlier post clearly and will edit it shortly. Thanks Raxiel.“Official Company Representative

If your PM colleague finds themselves looking for a beta tester when it comes to 'remote upgrade of a currently disconnected meter' feel free to pass them my details
In the meantime I'll continue to root around under the stairs for manual readings like some kind of savage.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). Octopus Flux0 -

Thanks Raxiel. I'll certainly keep that in mind. We do sometimes look for customers who are happy to help us with various trials on our products and equipment. I'll let you know if anything comes up around SMETS1.
Thanks again and have a good weekend.
