Garages might give reminders to their customers as a courtesy, but they're under no obligation to - nor are the AA or whoever.

Of coarse they are not obliged to send reminders but sending you a reminder on the day it expires is pretty pointless, I could’ve done with that 2 weeks ago.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

So take it to kwikfit and fail on brake pads you don't need and get your free retest its win win (for kwikfit or any other place who take drivers for mugs that is).

You'll only need a partial retest if you take the vehicle from the test centre for repairs and take it back within 10 working days. You can be charged a partial retest fee for this. In all other cases, you'll need to get a full retest and pay the full MOT test fee again.
