Feeling ripped off by Thomas Cook

Hi everyone, I went to a Thomas Cook branch today and exchanged 100€ into Pounds — they gave me £78.67. When I went home and checked their website, it says that for 100€ I would get £91.39. That's £12.72 more! does anyone know why?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I think they're ripping people off and I am ready to take this further if that's the case.

Was the online rate for buying a larger amount? Online rates are quite often higher than instore.
Why don't you ask the store what the reason was?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

If you just went it you get a worse rate than doing it online and going in. Likewise you get an even better rate doing it all online.

This is common knowledge these days.

You are using the sell rate. That is the rate that they sell Euros. You need to look at the buy back rate which will be lower
  • As above, £91 will be the sell rate.
  • Thanks for that! how come they don't advertise the buy back rate online?

Maybe because you can't arrange to sell back euros online? That's just me guessing though.

    Oops ignore me
  • Advise to all my fellow savers in here: under NO circumstances whatsoever carry out any buy back transactions or foreign currency exchange at Thomas Cook. Their buy back rate is nothing short of scandalous!

Does anyone know if I can get this transaction reverted and get my 100€ back?
  • Thomas Cook doesn't advertise what rate the buy back rate is anywhere just so that they can rip people off
