someone wants the receipt for my item but I dont want to give it

Quick question:

I bought an item a few weeks ago at a huge discount from a store. I had no intention of ebaying it at the time, but now decide I dont really want it, so decide to ebay it.

My auction for said item is active. THe current bid is already higher than what I paid for it, so I am now making a profit. Someone wants to know if I have the receipt for it to prove its genuine and not stolen.

Do I give them them, or the auction winner the receipt and risk negative feedback after they find out how much profit I have made out of this? What would you guys do in this situation?

copy it, blank out the price/s, copy again, and email them a copy.
    Get some gorm.
  • Hi, id send it with winnign item, there is probably not actually that much chance the winning bidder will be that said person anyway. As the for neg, at the end of the day you have started the bidding low and they will bid what they will, you are not making them!
Either that or just say sorry no, but risk losing a bid, is the item a valuable item?
    Choice is yours..............

Item is a GPS , so its perfectly understandable why a potential bidder wants the receipt. I think I will follow the above advice, and make a copy of the receipt with the price blanked out

of course if youre really paranoid about the winner, then mark the unit secretly. (uv pen?).
any return problems/fraud can be spotted then.
id be wary of supplying the original receipt to anyone who seems a little bit iffy.

    good advice.

As it happens this ebayer just messaged me back and he wants a copy of the receipt emailed to him :rotfl:Its quite possible he is genuinely interested in bidding on my item but its also possible he wants a copy so he can then sell his stolen unit with my receipt :D.

In any case Im more than happy to send him a copy of the receipt if he wins the auction.

i may need to show a buyer a receipt shortly, as i have just been accused of selling a fake item. it is genuine as it was from a reputable high street retailer and i still have the receipt, which i would like to show the buyer to prove that the item is genuine. however i don't want to annoy them as it cost a little less than they paid, and also they will see where i bought the item.

Have they bought the item if not tell them to get stuffed add them to your block bidder list and sell to someone genuine. Sounds dodgy.

Provide your own receipt. Keep a copy of the original one. Tell the buyer that you will give out a receipt with all the item details, your name and address and the price paid and the date of purchase, the Ebay item number too and method of payment.
Get it printed out and make it look as professional as possible.

It isn't necessary for you to show a customer where you have purchased the goods from. As long as you can provide details of where you purchased it to any authority who may ask (police, trading standards or the manufacturer of the item) there will not be a problem.

Any business who was asked to provide a customer a receipt of where they purchased anything they had sold would tell them to go away, or words to that effect.

was this reply to me or the OP?

if it was to me then yes they have bought the item and received it today. they have not asked me for the receipt just emailed stating that the item is not genuine, that they want a refund and asking how i wish to proceed with the matter. the only way i can think of to prove to them/ebay/paypal that it is genuine is for them to see the receipt.
