Taking my brave pills

Hi All - I'm editing this thread to turn it into my new diary - I need the motivation!

As you can see from below my work situation was uside down for a while, latest is Ive abandoned plans to work downsouth (or my company abandoned them for me!) and work at home.

My latest SOA:

Monthly Income:£1750
overtime is available but unreliable.

Monthly expenditure:
Mortgage £469
Gas/Electric £89 (I have a faulty 15 year old boiler and it runs nearly constantly - I cant afford to get it fixed - this is lowest available rate until i get that sorted)
Council tax - Already paid to end of this financial year :T
Food - £120
Contact lenses - £15
Insurance (house) - £15
transport - £50
Virgin Media - £25 (broadband and telly)
Mobile - £20
Mum and Dad - £150 (unegotiable, £100 for them, and £50 they are putting away for me cause Ineed an emergency fund to fix that boiler!)

Debts
Cahoot 15.9% payment £161, owing £7800
egg 7.66% payment £134, owing £5050
Halifax CC 16.9% £50 owing £1400
BH 11.9% £92 £3000

total outgoing £1390 (rising to £1490 in april when I have to pay CT again)

Bit below this line is now irrelevant - but leaving it here for posterity ;)

______________________________________________________

Help me people. Ive been offered 8 month secondment in my work. It will see me sent somewhere I cant stand, but pay me £1k a month in my hand for living away from home, as well as all expenses paid. (I would need to maintain my own home to qualify for this)

I don't want to go, but can any DFW in my place turn that down? It would be a mojor turning point in my debt free journey to pay off that cahoot loan...

So - help me out here - 8 months of my life for a debt free future? Can I do it?

£8000 for 8 months, i know its hard if you are not keen on the job but i think i could do anything for that length of time, look at when it would make your dfd and see if that convinces you.

Thanks Lunar, my brain tells me the same, I'm just wary of the more emotional side of it, the isolation of being alone in a place i dont like for so long I guess - I don't want to turn into some mad recluse or to come home and everythig changed. I'm a weirdo aren't I? :D

Not really, its based 600 miles from home, friends and family. I have to go there and stay there to qualify. I've worked there before and hated it, but you know, sometimes we have to do things we dont like and I am determined to pay this debt back asap... Im such a fool for running it up, I wouldn't be in this position otherwise

is it too far away to visit home regularly? 8 months isn't long though and the place will probably not be as bad as you think (unless it's dangerous or something like that). could you look at it as an opportunity to reinvent yourself? e.g. throw yourself into the DFW, work and weight loss campaign and immerge transformed next year?

Cheers! It's too far to regularly travel home without significantly eating into my "profit" from doing the work... I'd have to bite the bullet and maybe get home for christmas, and maybe easter, but otherwise stay away.

I should think about reinvention - you're right. Im anticipating being down so its not the first thought that comes to mind but I should think about it.
  • aww hugs for you. Try & turn it round to using that time to really debt bust and make the most of not having the temptation of going out & partying with mates all the time! Plus you CAN do things, even in a strange pace; join a group, do an evening class, excercise etc PLUS we follow wherever people go so get yourself an internet connection & away you go!! Its a great opportunity to shift a vast amount of debt & 8 months isnt that long in the grand scheme of things....

Thank you all so much, I needed people who understood the debt thing to say that - my friends just don't understand my total situation and continue t run their own debts ever upwards so they just arent best placed to advise me!
