Scrappage Scheme

The internal arrangements between Ford and their dealers are of no concern to the buying customer who has in my case left their car with the dealer in exchange for a discounted new car on the basis of oral and written paperwork that the old car would be immediately scrapped. It would seem that did not happen.
But why on earth go to the palaver of Ford offering so called scrapping incentives and then dealers printing off misleading paperwork about scrappage usingthe Ford logo and then still lying verbally to customers after the sale had been secured?
However, from what I've read from your comments, lying about scrappage just appears to be the industry norm. Wonderful!0 -

Because they get their bonus based on selling cars, not on being honest.
Using the term "scrappage" makes people think they're getting something extra for nothing. Sometimes they are, sometimes they're not.
A friend of mine - who really really really should know better - traded in his old people carrier against a brand new MINI 1499GT because they gave him £2,000 extra "scrappage".
It does seem to have been a genuine deal and he did secure extra discount, but he did the deal based on him getting £2,150 for his people carrier instead of £150.
He's quite euphoric about the whole thing.
They didnt even collect the old car off him - he still has it, but hes very pleased with himself that he "beat the system" and got this £2,000 bonus off.0 -

And surely, realistically - and you can postulate all you like here - the reality is you got the extra discount, so what does it matter?
You were hardly doing the deal to save the planet?0
