Scrappage Scheme
I bought a new Ford Focus in April from a dealer under the Ford Scrappage Scheme. The old car was in very good condition although it was over 8 years old. I had expected it to be scrapped under the terms of the scheme.
I note however when I feed my old reg. no. into any of the car insurance websites 5 months on it still shows as a live car. Is that just a timing blip or is DVLA still recognising it as a live car and not scrapped?

Aiui the original scrappage scheme was partially funded by the Government and any cars taken in were indeed scrapped.
The more recent scrappage schemes are just marketing bump and the dealer is under no obligation to scrap the cars they take in and can deal with them like any other part ex.
Happy to be corrected if anyone knows different.0 -
the cars must be scrapped,i see a lot of really good cars that have to be scrapped0

Marketing BS used to trick the average Joe into thinking their £500 car is worth £2000 if they bought an overpriced new car for £2000 more than the normal price.0

Its not a true "scrappage" scheme, its just a manufacturer incentive, so perfectly viable your car could be back on the road.0 -
they cannot be sold only parts can be sold
Yes they can. This is not an official scrappage scheme, so the manufacturers can do what they like.
A friend of mine got the scrappage offer with MINI on his old Ford Galaxy and he didnt even have to bring it to them, they just wanted the reg for the paperwork. He still has the car.0 -
i believe you are in ireland so it might be different but here the dealership has to be provided with a end of life certificate from the scrapyard which is then sent to swansea0

I am in Northern Ireland so part of the UK thanks.
There is no official scrappage scheme, no government incentives therefore no absolute obligation to scrap the car0
