    Thanks for the many, ujsefulreplies.

The phone I have is an Alba!
I will now use your help to dig as suggested and see if I can find a suitable phone.

    Will let you know!
    Alan.

    But which one!

Argos show ten, all SIM free. So you may only need a suitable network SIM card.

And again which network is your current phone is on?

Well it's certainly not O2 as it's locked to something else that gets no signal at all. I'd still look at O2, GiffGaff or Tesco's for the OP.

Those Alba's are all sim free, do they lock to the first card put in?

We don't know that though it appears it maybe from the visit to CPW, surprised they did not sell the OP something though.

Never know anything but Iphones from certain sellers to lock to the first SIM card network if SIM free.

You would lose your current credit, to answer one of your questions.

Not necessarily. The main site has a page about reclaiming it. If that doesn't work, at the very least you could text the credit to a charity..;)

Yeah, I'm beginning to suspect that @brooke431 maybe misunderstood something at CPW.

You already have a phone. If it is not locked to a network (?) you only need a PAYG SIM from a network that has a good signal in your area.

As suggested, order a free O2 PAYG SIM, without any credit yet, put it in your phone and see if you have a signal.

    Only for contracts, not PAYG.

In that case better text the money to a charity rather than let the company pocket your cash.;)

  • The big question remains.
Due to the varying info., I have receive from the various phone providers, HOW do I find out which network will give me signal at my home?

This has already been answered - reread the advice and use the link provided by Inner Zone in post 10.

It appears that O2 and Vodafone are the best bets.

Its going to be difficult for anyone to give you any advice if you cant / don't answer their questions.

Main ones that have been asked but not answered by you are:

    - Who is your current provider.
    - What is the model (not just the brand) of your current phone.

With this information someone might be able to check if your current phone can be unlocked.
