As far as I remember, if you are making changes to an existing Windows installation, it will still ask for a valid username and password.

A windows install screen is ALL dark blue in Low res... very different from the windows theme
    pictured one

and the password will be asked if your upgrading, but not a clean install. but upgrades are generally done from within windows

As I wrote earlier, if the password is incorrect, it will say incorrect even if you use a repair disk.
I am 99% sure that you are using the wrong account or password to access your computer, never heard of a Windows update changing accounts or corrupting passwords.

Thanks. But I am using the correct account and the correct password. I have even changed the password on my mobile but still cannot login on the affected PC at the beginning.
But I can login to my hotmail account on the mobile and my laptop using the new password.
I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T

Although the point here as far as I am aware is to get the computer running again, not to reinstall it!!

Windows 10 All versions, uses your account either a domain account on the enterprise versions or a WINDOWS MAIL ACCOUNT to verify the user.

if your network is disconnected, then it will give you the option ot sign in on a local account.

if you change your password on a mobile phone, or on another windows computer, then that password is synced with your Microsoft account, and you will have to use your "new password" to sign into windows.

I am at this moment assuming that you have not changed your password on your mobile!!!
but it is another option change it on the mobile and that will give you the password on the computer as well...

Thanks for the suggestions but I have only one account on the computer. I have tried the Microsoft login and have also changed the password and can login on my mobile but not this pc. I have tried logging in using the windows login as well but it's saying incorrect password and I have tried different passwords to same effect.

Installing windows through the DVD drive now

It gave me an option of repair but when clicked it, said that this option is not available on this system.

As I understand it, you cannot logon to windows because of an incorrect username/password combination. This being so, nothing you can do will 'get you in'. The whole system has been designed to stop you doing just that - for obvious reasons.

The only thing you can do (assuming, as you say, there are no other accounts on the system) is to boot from DVD, format the HDD and re-install.

Ok thanks. I am now installing the windows 10 from DVD which game the option of keeping the old files but I won't be able use old windows already there. The screen is now saying getting ready for last 30 minutes. I don't think it's going to work but we will see. If it doesn't work I will try and remove my important files using Ubuntu disc and then format the computer and do a clean install. Will keep you posted.
    Thanks again everybody.

OK first off, the version of the computer your burning the disc or creating the USB will not make any difference, its an image file .iso so all of the disc is encapsulated in it. and by Burning your just mirroring that file to the media. so no worries.

If its asking you for the password again then its booted direct into the windows system booting from the C-drive instead of the media, this should start as a windows install separate from the hard drive.
so go into the BIOS, Hit the del key as the computer boots, and then
look for the area that allows you to specify the boot order, change this to your DVD instead of the 1st Fixed disc.
    then reboot
the disc will run, and it will load from the DVD not the har drive, it will not ask you for passwords but give you the option of installing windows Its at this tim e you have the option of the repairs.

ARCIERE has a point about making sure that you are on the correct account, press space bar and select from the pictures / names at the bottom left of the screen

But YES, i have come across this little gem a lot of times, Microfot Upgrades can and DO go adrift, either from insufficient disc space, to corrupt downloads, to bad sectors on the hard drive.
it can also happen if there is faults or fragmentastion in the registry

if you cannot get the DVD to work, a last resort option is to start the computer and as windows boot screen comes up turn off the power, after 6 -10 times Windows will decide there is a fault and bring up the repair screen... Light BLUE with the option to reboot, or repair.

the best option is the rollback, the next is an upgrade

if you boot from the windows image on the DVD and go ahead with the install, windows will see that there is an old version of the operating system on board.

it will create a directory called windows.old

    in there you will find

    program files
programe files x86 (on 64 bit machines)
    users
    windows

that will be all of your old previous computer, your "data" and old software will be preserved, but none of the software will work until you reinstall

PS im a Microsoft Beta tester, and a computer consultant..... you don;t know half of the things the operating system can will does throw wobblies at lol
Very useful. Thank you. I did get the DVD to work and I am installing by the side of old windows.

  • Don't worry about it sticking for anything up to an hour, its working, its all based upon how old the computer is the speed of the CPU and the Speed of the discs. as well as available disc space.

The programs will all have to be reinstalled, but the data will all be saved, and that's the important bit, things like pictures, letters in the majority cannot be brought back, the software is always going to be able to go in and work.

    Update. Yes it's working now.
Can see the old windows and the documents. So all looking good. I had backed up my pictures n documents with EaseUS Todo on external hard drive. So will try and restore that backup after installing EaseUS.
    Thanks again

Good suggestion. I remember years ago I had a similar issue, and I found that the keyboard was not typing what I thought it was, and I didn't see it because it was a password and and being masked as asterisks. It was something stupid like the num lock wasn't set or something.
