Hi there,
I am unable to use my desktop after Windows 10 installed some updates automatically. I have even changed my Microsoft password but still its not recognizing the password.
I can login to my Microsoft account with same details on my mobile.
I have tried logging in safe mode as well but cannot login.
I have restarted it multiple times but to no use. I even tried to log in as administrator but it's not excepting my password. I have only one account on the PC.
I have spent few hours on the chat with Microsoft technical help as well and they have suggested to do a clean install which will wipe out all my data.
I spent another 2 hours on line with them (Microsoft help on chat) through my old Laptop running Windows XP to make a bootable USB drive. BUt they couldn't do it and said that I need to have a newer computer (windows 7 or above) to make a bootable USB drive.
My questions are:
1. Is there any possibility of logging on to my PC witout wiping all the data?
2. If not, can I make a bootable DVD from my ancient Laptop with win XP?
Thanks for reading

1. Make sure that you are actually logging on with the correct account. Check if you are using an offline account instead of a Microsoft account
2. What would you achieve with a bootable DVD? As far as I understood, Windows is not having problems booting up. If the password doesn't work, it won't work with the bootable DVD as well.
If you are concerned about your data, just remove the drive and connect it to another computer. As long as the data on it is not encrypted, you should be able to just copy&paste.0 -
Thanks for the reply. Even the offline option is not working.
So I will have to reset my PC deleting all the data and do a clean install of Windows 10 from the DVD which I have managed to burn on my old laptop with win 10 ISO I downloaded online.I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T0 -
go to the Microsoft windows 10 website, select download, select create boot disc / usb .
make the usb can be done on any computer , turn off the windows 10 computer install the USB and turn it back on, if it does not boot to the USB then restart the computer go into the BIOS and select the boot device as the USB
reboot again, select REPAIR from the menu (F6 I think) and it will bring you to the repair menu
select either reset / start afresh - which will install a new copy of windows without removing your data
or roll back to a previos time using the system restore0 -

Thank you for your advice. The problem I have is the windows 10 I have is 64 bit n the XP laptop is 32 bit so cannot make a bootable usb.
But I have burnt a dvd with Win 10 64 bit. Tried booting through it but again it's asking for password. Couldn't find the repair option. Will try harder n try the F6.

As I wrote earlier, if the password is incorrect, it will say incorrect even if you use a repair disk.
I am 99% sure that you are using the wrong account or password to access your computer, never heard of a Windows update changing accounts or corrupting passwords.0 -
OK first off, the version of the computer your burning the disc or creating the USB will not make any difference, its an image file .iso so all of the disc is encapsulated in it. and by Burning your just mirroring that file to the media. so no worries.
If its asking you for the password again then its booted direct into the windows system booting from the C-drive instead of the media, this should start as a windows install separate from the hard drive.
so go into the BIOS, Hit the del key as the computer boots, and then
look for the area that allows you to specify the boot order, change this to your DVD instead of the 1st Fixed disc.
then reboot
the disc will run, and it will load from the DVD not the har drive, it will not ask you for passwords but give you the option of installing windows Its at this tim e you have the option of the repairs.
ARCIERE has a point about making sure that you are on the correct account, press space bar and select from the pictures / names at the bottom left of the screen
But YES, i have come across this little gem a lot of times, Microfot Upgrades can and DO go adrift, either from insufficient disc space, to corrupt downloads, to bad sectors on the hard drive.
it can also happen if there is faults or fragmentastion in the registry
if you cannot get the DVD to work, a last resort option is to start the computer and as windows boot screen comes up turn off the power, after 6 -10 times Windows will decide there is a fault and bring up the repair screen... Light BLUE with the option to reboot, or repair.
the best option is the rollback, the next is an upgrade
if you boot from the windows image on the DVD and go ahead with the install, windows will see that there is an old version of the operating system on board.
it will create a directory called windows.old
in there you will find
program files
programe files x86 (on 64 bit machines)
users
windows
that will be all of your old previous computer, your "data" and old software will be preserved, but none of the software will work until you reinstall
PS im a Microsoft Beta tester, and a computer consultant..... you don;t know half of the things the operating system can will does throw wobblies at lol0 -

Running the Assumption that by him saying in his post that he had tried logging in as Administrator, he's tried alternative logins, and obviously looked ! but never hurts to double check!0

Just Double Checked...…
downloaded Windows 10 Pro onto a USB using Linux
put the USB intothe windows 10 Enterprise computer
turned it on (selected F12), to boot from the Sandisc USB
came up with a Blue Screen asking language Country etc
selected install
At this point on the bottom of the screen there is the repair option or a button that says install
hit the repair, got the light blue screen
rebooted
started again
this time hit install
selected the Cdrive
installation started!!!
NO PASSWORDS REQUIRED0 -
Although the point here as far as I am aware is to get the computer running again, not to reinstall it!!
Windows 10 All versions, uses your account either a domain account on the enterprise versions or a WINDOWS MAIL ACCOUNT to verify the user.
if your network is disconnected, then it will give you the option ot sign in on a local account.
if you change your password on a mobile phone, or on another windows computer, then that password is synced with your Microsoft account, and you will have to use your "new password" to sign into windows.
I am at this moment assuming that you have not changed your password on your mobile!!!
but it is another option change it on the mobile and that will give you the password on the computer as well...0
