I think there are many out there with asdl and quite happy with it. I suspect their line test results don't show 2mbps though.

As you are on fibre now, clearly you either

    1. Fell for the marketing hype.
    2. Found asdl too slow

Surely he couldn't have fallen for the marketing hype, that would make him gullible :rotfl:

The OP's 'point' that perhaps ISP's make more money from FTTC rather than ADSL, is probably incorrect , in the case of MPF providers like Talk Talk and Sky, providing ADSL2+ is totally (apart from line rental costs ) within their own network, using assets they already own, whereas with FTTC they are paying out to third party's for both the line and the FTTC port (and any handover links) , so Sky and TT would presumably be better off with ADSL2+ customers than FTTC customers, even taking into account the slightly higher fee they can ask for FTTC over ADSL.
The implied point, that is if ADSL providers only guarantee 2-3Mb , then that's all they will provide is nonsense, they will provide whatever the line length will support , and if the line length is short enough that in the past 10Mb+ was achievable then there is no reason to think that speed wouldn't be achieved now .

Actually Fibre does make more money for the broadband providers. The wholesale cost of the line to the supplier for fibre has been cut in half in the last year.

Have you noticed in any lowering of price to the customer?

The monthly wholesale price of an ADSL line is £7.50, down from £9.50 at one point.

All the companies now charge you £18.99 for the line. What do they charge you £11.49 a month for then?

They don't charge me £11.49 for anything, in fact that figure isn't one I have used anywhere....I said the combined line and FTTC port cost is around £14/month (and it is)
I have no idea why you quote an arbitrary retail line rental cost of £18.99 when the point of the post is what the provider pays their supplier , not what they can charge the end user.
The OP claimed that CP's make more money out of FTTC, so try to persuade ADSL2 customer to switch, LLU /MPF providers like Sky have to pay OR for line retail and a port charge for FTTC but only pay ( wholesale ) line rental for ADSL2 customers , if a MPF provider sells cheap FTTC for £25 they hand over £14 or so to OR, so keep £11, if they sell ADSL2 for £20, they hand over £7.66 to OR , so keep £12.34,
