Hi whilst in tesco this morning I bought a red pepper which the price said 55 pence each but after weighing it on the scales it came up as 41 pence, when mentioning this to 3 different staff they all gave the answer peppers are not a weighable item, but on the scales it shows red peppers and weighs and prices these....... Bit of a con if you ask me.

If you are forewarned by the big label on the shelf you pick it up from says 55p for a single pepper, in what way is it a con when you are charged 55p for said single pepper? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Cool story Bro!0

Its not a con. Peppers are 55p. They charged you 55p
Why you decided to weigh it, I dont know. Why do the scales show red peppers? I dont know.
You queried this confusing aspect with the staff, why am I weighing these peppers and why is it letting me weigh these peppers, and they explained.
Not a con!
Also while I’m at it, if you picked a honking great pepper and it weighed in at 78p, would you have alerted the staff?0 -
Hold on, what came up as 41p?0

It's not a bit of a con.
It's not a con at all.
I don't buy single peppers as that is an expensive way (but not a con).
I buy a value pack and menu plan to make sure I use them all up.0 -
1. Did you want a married red pepper?
2. Same for bananas in the papers yesterday, Tesco have switched to per item pricing because they make more money, er I mean it gives the customer more opportunity, er, it's more cost effective er, no I really cannot remember the excuse now!0 -
As everyone else says a pepper isnt a weighable item, I dont know about Tesco but Ive seen them elsewhere with a label on that you scan. I also would like to know what you searched that was 41p.0

Different varieties of red pepper perhaps? A Bell pepper (the classic bucket-shaped one) might be a non-weighable item with a bar code but a Romano pepper (the long one) be sold by weight?I need to think of something new here...0

I've no idea what Tesco expect but if you pick up a single red pepper, weigh it, print a price label and it says 41p that is what you will get charged at the self service or other till.0
